Neighbours rubbish and rats

Can anyone help me either someone who works for council or solicitors maybe. We have neighbours from hell next door we are homeowners they are private tenants, with 8 kids. I have been complaining about their rubbish since they moved in about 4years ago. Normally the council issue them letter giving them 14 days to shift it and then on day 14 they hire a van and fly tip it somewhere through the night. Not this time they are ignoring it and they have rats in their yard we now have rats in our house they are eating the poison but still active. Have emailed council but he is on holiday til Monday but last time he came out was in May and took photos saying he would issue some kind of court order then nothing my husband emailed and rang him ever week but no reply. I’ve rang the council again the psr department which deals with private tenants but they just said they would email James ( the guy I was dealing with) boss and get them to ring me back urgently. But no response I have emailed our MP Nick Brown but no reply and then local councillor Nick Kemp by email and messenger but no one wants to help me. I am terrified of the rats I even said if no one wants to help I would have to contact local/national newspapers and/or local/national news channels to see if they can help but that hasn’t prompted a reply from any of them if I could work out how to put photos on with this iPhone I would to show yous the rubbish any suggestions

Could they have mental health issues . Or possibly finding it difficult to cope? Could it be they have no money and can't afford to get the rubbish taken? There may be something going on on there life for them to have got into that state in the first place. It's not often people get like that unless there's a reason for it.

They wont pay, it will just pile up,again, how depressing, hopefully the council can come up with a permanent solution.

I would be terrified too. You have had some great advice on here.

I am also concerned that they have 8 children, dread to think what their living conditions are like.

SaltySheepdog · 14/08/2021 03:32

Good news!

lannistunut · 14/08/2021 06:41

Excellent news, at least some respite before it starts again!!

zaffa · 14/08/2021 07:07

I still think you need to take this to the papers, or they will just start again. It is madness you are living this way, they sound horrendous! I really think if you pose it as 'local man of community terrorised by neighbours from hell' it will get a lot
Or traction and the landlord will be interested to hear from a paper surely as it is his property which will feature - and put off future tenants potentially.
How can he not want to know what is happening in his property!

Yeh, it’s crazy to think it’s just going to happen again and again. I am on my way to work now til6pm so not able to post much but I am still going to try to get together with my MP or local councillor and ask if they can help for the future, maybe if they will let me send a letter/email to the landlord via them. Would love to go to papers/ tv with this but will be a last resort as worried about the danger I could put me and my family in. They mix with some dodgy people (shoplifters, drug dealers, gangster type people) I know I have cameras at my door but if they do any they can easily disguise themselves or get someone else to do deed for them. Will keep informed of any developments and appreciate everyone’s input. Xx

I know this isn't what you want to hear but I ended up moving. I found out very quickly that the housing association didn't really care. She was getting more and more hostile and I just couldn't take another summer of being unable to sit outside or do any gardening. It's so frustrating but unfortunately if they pay their rent on time, no one cares. My friend had people smoking heroin in the flat below her, which came through her floor where she and her baby were, again no one cared.

Oh my god! How awful! I'm so sorry! You've had some great advice here, especially from @lannistunut. Definitely a public health / environmental health issue. Going to the papers is a good idea to get things moving and to get someone to listen to you. Did you say they have 8 kids?!? Surely social services should be involved with this too?!

Jacflett · 14/08/2021 14:26

Social services have been involved with them as her daughter who I think is no more than 16/17 lives with her with her 4year old daughter!!! And there has been various other complaints

If there have been other complaints can you collaborate with other neighbours on this? Surely it's upsetting lots of people nearby?

BecauseMyRingBurnsSheila · 15/08/2021 21:22

That is a LOT of rubbish OP.

I would start a log including all the people who you have contacted and when you contacted them. Then every day contact one person on the list so you're cycling through all of people until one of them does something. Take more photos each time and update them on the situation since you last contacted them e.g. saw rats on x date & time. Heard rats on y date and time. Then send the updates each day to the next person on the list.
