HI,
we have sold our property in the south and are looking in the north east to buy a house, currently looking in durham but havent a clue about where is nice (we need a good primary and secondary school for children) we have found houses we like in kingswood langley park but dont know anything about the area is it ok?
our budget is £695,000 ,we also looked at ebchester ,lanchester, shotley bridge but once again dont have a clue about the areas!
Any help on best schools and best places to live for nice walks would be great!thanks!

Langley Park isn't the best area for a good secondary, although IMO it's a nice enough place. Lanchester is lovely though. Try Neville's Cross if you want to be in the catchment for DJCS and handy for the city centre.

Hi @ilovecake77 - come and join us on this NE thread - it is the coronavirus section as it was originally about levels in NE, now it has morphed into a general NE chat thread.

I'm in Durham City and happy to answer any questions. Agree with creme that Neville's Cross is good for Durham Johnston

Lanchester is far nicer than langley park. The houses in Kingswood are nice enough, but the surrounding areas are.... less so. For your budget Lanchester, Shotley and Ebchester are much better.

I'm near Shotley Bridge - the Primary there is very decent (I taught there, I'm biased!) and you have the option of Consett Academy (decent enough) or moving to the three tier Northumberland system with Corbridge, which a few Shotley pupils do every year. It's a really lovely village with some gorgeous houses. Consett (3 miles away) is not a particularly nice town but you're 10 miles from Newcastle, which is fab. Ebchester has some equally lovely houses but also some not so nice ones, IMO. Shotley is the better of the two.

I'm sure you know you'll get a something lovely in this area for that budget - here's an example (needs a bit of modernisation!)

our budget is £695,000

There are currently 9 houses for sale in Durham between £600-£700K. They'll all be in nice areas.

I'm in Durham too. Neville's Cross and North End/Whitesmocks are areas to look at for guaranteed access to outstanding schools. St Margaret's for primary, Durham Johnston for secondary. Anything on that western side of the city and you'd be fine.

I have lived in Langley Park. It's nice enough but you'll be looking at Fyndoune or Fram for schools rather than Johnston. LP is a working class village, and not a particularly pretty one although it does have some nice walks. Lanchester is far nicer.

Consett inc Shotley Bridge is bloody freezing.

@myrtleWilson
I have recently moved in to Newcastle and planning to move my family after the summer vacation. I am looking for a good/outstanding sate secondary co-ed school for my kids.
I checked the good school guide and got few suggestions from friends too. Not bothered by buying a house since l plan to rent at the moment. kindly help me with few questions and about the schools also please recommend other schools

School suggestions
1.St Wilfrids RC College (Temple Park Road, South Shields, NE34 0QA)
2.St Thomas More Cathiloc (High School Lynn Road, North Shields, NE29 8LF)
3.Valley Gaedens Middle then to Whitley Bay High (Whitley Bay)
4.St Lenoard’s CatholicSchool (North End, Durham, DH1 4NG)
5.Belmont Commuity School (Buckinghamshire Road, Durham, DH1 2QP)

Is it difficult to travel daily from Durham to north shield for work during bc hours?
Why south shields houses are cheaper than north shields?
Thanks
