How do you sand cracks between wall and skirting?

I've never painted before. No idea where to start. I only have two-three days, unexpected chance to just refresh the standard white paint in a new build flat, haven't time to change colours or get it done professionally so anything I do is just a bonus.

Several areas where there are cracks between skirting and walls. Presumably I have to sand these somehow first, but how? Do I need to fill it in with anything?

Yes, you need some decorators caulk to fill the gaps, the sand it down.

Thanks. Not sure if I am really up for yet another challenge in additional to the other work, but I might see.

Don't think it's too likely to get decorators in a no notice and on a weekend, shame! It's the skirting that needs painting most and I don't know if I have the patience to do that well, plus arm and back problems with repetitive movement.

Hmmm

I decorated our old house last year for sale. It was a Victorian house with gaps everywhere. I must have got through ten tubes of decorators caulk. It gives such a great finish and can be painted over. Really worth the effort imo.

Another vote here for decorator's caulk. We have an old house, and it makes a huge difference on skirting boards, the gap around door frames and wall, cracks and gaps in window frames and architraves, old panelled doors, tops of walls and ceilings. The paint finish is much better and it all stays cleaner for longer, since you don't have horrible little gaps to fill with dust.
