Karndean and underfloor heating

Anyone have this combo? Is karndean or similar ok with underfloor heating?

I know porcelain is best for heat conduction but for a number of reasons I won't bore you with I'm thinking I want karndean.

Yes it’s fine. We have Karndean (might actually be Amtico but I can’t remember!) in our kitchen with electric underfloor heating. Is lovely to come down to on wintery mornings.

Fab thanks @Itsthecatsfault , does it heat the room sufficiently?

With have Amtico with underfloor heating and it's absolutely fine!

Karndean and UFH, it’s completely fine and our rooms are comfortable in winter (although I wouldn’t say particularly warm). We have electric underfloor heating as no mains gas and most of the important work is ensuring your underfloor is properly made.

@ooowhataday We do have a small radiator in the kitchen as well. But most of the heat from that seems to disappear out the back door. The underfloor heating takes the chill off the room and is lovely underfoot. I think it makes you feel warm because your feet are warm if that makes sense?

It replaced slate laid directly over concrete which was unbearably icy in winter. They did lay some insulation over the concrete before the UFH was laid as well.

Cheers, we're having wet underfloor heating so hoping it will be sufficient to heat the room. Was wondering if I'd need radiators to top up too as I'm very nesh!

We have Karndean with wet underfloor heating in our kitchen and it is so warm and toasty! I would not want a radiator in the room.

ooowhataday · 10/08/2021 22:17

Thanks @Blowitout I was hoping that would be the case!

We've got Amtico and wet underfloor heating. It's great. You do have to play around a bit to the temperature right as floor heat can be quite low relatively and still make the room feel warm. Plus I didn't want ours on all the time. Also consider where your thermostat is. Our outer walls are much cooler than the main temperature of the room so my thermostat is on a cupboard on our island as that location catches the median temp of the whole room much better.
