We're wanting to extend our kitchen but cannot decide what we want/need. I have attached currently floor plan

what would you guys suggest?

  1. extending the whole kitchen & utility and knocking through the wall between them. Making one big kitchen/diner with an island and dining table

  2. adding an orangery/conservatory type thing into the kitchen only making it big enough to have a table in but keeping the utility as it is.

  3. other option is no extension and just knocking the wall through and opening the kitchen up where we could then get an island in.

We mainly want to do this as we never use our dining room as we currently have a breakfast bar and also use that. So we would like to change the dining room into a playroom

Have you guys got any suggestions or advice

what are the plans for the existing conservatory? do you use that & like it? is it possible to take part of it down for the new kitchen extension?

I would definitely want to keep a utility room. What other things do you want to achieve with this extension? space for a dining table, or for a kitchen island or something else?

@parietal the current conservatory we hate, it's far to big and is a heat trap,we were thinking if we extending we'd definitely use the end wall (it shows on the floor plan of ending slightly in the kitchen it doesn't it ends directly at our living room)

The main objective would to be able to eat in the kitchen either this be round a island or a table and have the dining room as a play room. We also having a big dining table for when guests come in the conservatory too.

Thank you for your help!

so the easiest option would probably be something like this - keep the utility room but block off the window, and build one big room outside the kitchen. And knock down as much wall as you can between the new & old kitchen.

but you'd also want to think carefully about the configuration of kitchen units in the new space, and how you would use the space. you might want skylights in the new room so the old kitchen is not too dark.

@parietal oh thank you, I hadn't even thought about that option! Definitely think I need to think about how the space would be used and whether it's worth doing in the long run. Would definitely to think about the lighting aswell.

I really appreciate your help
