making good of the walls?

When you sell your house, what do you do with your walls when removing photos/artwork that have been nailed into the wall?

I keep reading about how you should 'make good of the walls' but surely if you remove the nails and use polyfiller, the walls will look worse because it would have splotches everywhere? I haven't got a clue what the paint colours are to buy sample pots to touch up - some of my rooms were decorated 8-9 years ago!

I'm sure that when we moved into our house, the nails/picture hooks were left in the wall.

What does everyone usually do?

We didn't bother. It was fine. I have never bought a house with "made-good" walls.

I intend to leave the hooks, and fill the holes from the book case brackets if we leave those. And NO, idiot EA woman, brackets to stop them falling does NOT make them built in so that they HAVE to stay.
fuckoff

Also will fill holes in kitchen ceiling cos I am NOT leaving my pot hanger.

But it's all white walls/ceilings here so polyfilla won't show.

Curtain rails will be staying

Leave them! I was grateful our sellers left the nails/holes in the walls. Meant it was less effort to put photos and mirrors up and just deal with holes we didn't want. I don't think it's an expectation to fill them in to be honest.

phew that's a relief thank you!

If you have painted walls, you could fill and paint over. But paint does fade over time, and you may find that even if you have some left over paint that hasn't died, you end up with a patch and have to repaint the whole wall....
If it's just tiny holes from the little nails that you use for picture hooks, might be best just to leave them be.
