Colour ideas for hallway/landing

So I've asked for colour ideas twice before, I've taken the advice both times, and have been thrilled with the result twice, so oh wise ones please help again I completely lack any vision!

We live in a modern house with very light carpets, technically grey but the grey is so light it almost looks like a beige/oatmealy type of grey. Woodwork is white, with oak bannister.

I'd like to paint the hallway and landing but completely undecided on what colour, fed up of white, would like something light and airy but not boring that goes with a grey-ish house but not really wanting to paint grey.

Help!

My hallways are yellow, a sort of muted shade rather than mustard or custard. It was off-white when we moved in, but in spite of it being light and airy it made the corners so dark and shadowy - it really needed colour to lift it and make it feel less dingy where no natural light gets. I do love cheerful colours though, and don't have any beige or grey walls in the house.

Thank you, yes we tend to go for colour, I did a teal in my office and it's gorgeous. That said I have found myself eyeing up elephants breath and hardwick white in f&b book despite saying I didn't want grey!

Try skimming stone by f&b, it's the most amazing colour, looks great with all decor/colour schemes

SwimmingOnEggshells · 28/07/2021 20:07

Elephants breath is starting to look quite dated in my opinion, I'd avoid that

Another option is Great White by f&b, it's a pink-white.

Or if you're into colour try Peig Noir which is a lilac-pink, beautiful colour

I have to admit I did get a bit nervous finding posts from 2012 discussing elephants breath ha! Is skimming stone very light? Will it still be obvious we've decorated if that makes sense?! I'm just a bit nervous to pay hundreds to get it decorated and it not look vastly different from white!

We've got the same tones you mentioned. Oak doors and banister and pale grey carpet. We went for Dulux Egyptian cotton in the hall and landing and it's lovely and warm.

BlackAlys · 28/07/2021 20:33

How much natural light do you have in that area OP?

userchange902 · 28/07/2021 20:40

@TwitchyLittleFerret that looks lovely, will pick up a sample.

@BlackAlys not a huge amount tbh, especially when doors are closed which I often do as I like to shut my office off on weekends etc. We have a glass front door and a small window upstairs but not a huge amount of light.

@userchange902 ah good, you can see a pic. I tried posting three times and I still can't see it on the app!

Have you ever considered wallpaper? We did ours a few years ago and I still love it. We have a grey carpet and white bannisters and horror of horrors Elephants Breath on the non wallpapered walls.

Agree with PP, skimming stone is lovely, you'll 100% be able to tell its been decorated. Not quite grey, not quite cream, much lighter & more modern than elephants breath. Lighter colours from "premium" brands are always much more accurate when colour matched too if you go that route.

@Icequeen01 that's so beautiful I love that paper

How about a soft cool-toned sage green? We just painted a room with Johnstone's Natural Sage and it's beautiful. Still manages to be light and airy, which I didn't expect. The floor is a grey-toned ash and it works well.

that's lovely wallpaper. I've just used little greene rolling fog mid in the hallway and pleased with it - grey/beige/pink tones to it - as needed to have a neutral colour but wanted to have a warmer tone to it. The colour on the website doesn't do it justice.

Thank you. We still love it too and it gets lots of comments from visitors. This post prompted me to check whether you can still buy this paper as I would honestly redecorate using it again. Luckily it is still available so that will save weeks of searching and indecision.

I absolutely love mine, having posted a very similar question a while back! The carpets are pale beige, the woodwork is white, most of the walls are Dulux Chalky Downs 6 (the neutral greige I have throughout the house) and the back wall is pale pink - specifically F&B Pink Ground, which is quite a yellowy-pink and therefore not sickly.

It looks lovely - bright, fun and different but still grown up. Pink Ground is the only F&B colour i've actually used, as the tester pots for the dupes I tried just weren't as nice.

@Icequeen01 beautiful wallpaper, it would make me happy too. Sorry I didn't mean to offend with my elephants breath comment,m
