I was going to go for laminate but I do adore marble and I am wondering about taking the plunge are there any places you rate or avoid?

I’m looking too, but my advice is do not pick marble, unless you just mean quartz that looks like marble. It will stain.

I've just ordered quartz via a local company. I did visit 3 separate showrooms and got advice from them about quality etc. There are many many companies manufacturing quartz from all over the world so shop around, look at samples etc.

We’ve just had quartz installed. Went with a local company that got lots of recommendations on the local Facebook site and are very pleased. We are in Surrey if by any chance you are in the area.

We used this company a few years ago (also known as Lunastone). They were recommedned by a few mumsnet people and I thought they were excellent:

Based in Welwyn Garden City and fit all over UK. If you are close enough I would recommend visiting because the small samples they show are not representative at all of the full slab.

Oh thank you

Marble is my love but it seems more pricey sadly.
Do cabinets need to bar shored up to take the extra weight and if hobs are cut out, are they standard sizes so others can fit it, same with sinks!

I would avoid J Rotherham

Mosaic123 · 27/07/2021 12:36

Marble absorbs. Quartz is much better for longevity.

beggingforsleep · 27/07/2021 12:59

@JooLoo could I ask who you used please? I'm also on the hunt and in Surrey

DragonMamma · 27/07/2021 13:05

We have used MBP services for our quartz. I wouldn’t touch marble because it’s so porous and I know we’d ruin it.

Houserenoqueen · 27/07/2021 13:09

We got quartz from GMQ Stone. Would recommend.

GoGranite in Coventry did a good job & very reasonable.

From my experience they come and template once your units are in. You'll need your hob, sink, tap available in order to be measured - this will delay your finished kitchen by a week or so.

Whether you need a supporting leg etc. Will depend on the size of your worktop & overhang.

Also one thing I didn't think of - the underside of granite is unfinished & stamped with ugly black writing. Worth considering if anyone is going to see the underside, you can have it polished I think.

@Dinosauraddict

Thank you can I ask why was it service or more to the quality?

Just wondering what can go wrong!

Groggy thank you , we are down south so maybe too far for them to come!

We used Croydon Granite - great range, very helpful, competitive pricing.

JooLoo · 27/07/2021 14:06

@beggingforsleep we used First Stone Workshops based in Borden in Hampshire. Very efficient and helpful service

Dinosauraddict · 27/07/2021 14:55

@Panickingpavlova it was the service - quality was lovely. But they sent us the wrong colour quartz, took weeks to do a replacement while our kitchen was unusable, wouldn't answer the phone etc etc

Panickingpavlova · 27/07/2021 20:38

Dinasour thank you
