Is Valspar paint any good.

I notice B&Q now mix Valspar and not Dulux. Was looking at the premium paint as it says it’s washable.
Anyone used it and found it good.

No it flakes!!

Never again. Took 4 coats to get close to even coverage (but still patchy really, we gave up). Had the cats piss smell on hot days even though it was after that was meant to be resolved.

So so so happy when we painted over it.

It's bizarre that I've never had any of these issues. White/ light/dark on many walls and all great. The only issue recently was with Dulux off the shelf navy- it marks so easily, even with just a light rub with a hand!

HouseIsOnFire · 25/07/2021 13:30

I had the most premium base and it all peeled off with removing masking tape, I don't know if it's because we used a paint sprayer but never had the peeling with dulux and valspar took 4 coats and marks easily on the walls.

Crown is also good, if that's available near you.

gamerchick · 25/07/2021 16:36

Stinks like cats piss during hot weather but it's durable definitely.

If it didnt look so good I'd have got rid of it by now.

Same here. Supposibly after they put the additive or whatever back in. Personally I think they just said that to avoid any more compensation payouts Hmm

I'm a P & D and have used it, it's fine to use and the customers really like it, say it's hardwearing and wipeable. I didn't notice any pong.

BlueMongoose · 25/07/2021 20:46

@PizzaPiePizzaPie

And doesn’t smell. I was planning on painting one wall a day and airing it out so she can still sleep in there. I see Wicks do dulux. Also had an excellent paint centre years ago, it’s a cafe now.
We used Valspar at work back in the day, it was fine then, but that's decades ago. If you don't need it to be hard-wearing and want a paint that doesn't stink the place out, try earthborn. Their clay paint is a dream to put on, I hardly needed a second coat even with a big colour change, and I couldn't smell it at all. Colour range ius limited, but sophisticated. Do get a testerpot(s) if you're thinking of it, though, as it takes light a bit oddly, so some colours look very different on the wall than on the card.
BlueMongoose · 25/07/2021 20:52

Worst emulsion paint I ever had was from a reputable manufacturer, it was a batch problem, and a long time ago, so I won't name them. It simply would not thin. Weirdest thing I have ever experienced. My boss told me off for not thinning it, I said I had. Then we both did. Twice. it didn't thin. Turned out it had 'livered'. You added water, stirred it, but it was really like a bucket of liver, heavy, and it stayed in slimy, flattish lumps. We binned it and they gave us a refund (we bought many 5L cans of the stuff every week, so we had some leverage).

coldwarenigma · 25/07/2021 20:57

I'm currently decorating the new place we have moved to in Valspar. Easy to apply, it's on fresh plaster but 2 coats has done it. We have a large dog who rubs up against every wall having zoomies and marks, dirt wipe off...
We used the kitchen and bathroom paint in the bathroom and had a colour match..its spot on..

Tunnocksmallow · 25/07/2021 21:01

You can get samples in the colour matching in silk and matt.
They colour match all brands.
Personally I didn’t like the premium V700 paint, I prefer the V500. Which is washable. But you have to do 2 coats, wait for it to fully ‘cure’ for a week before giving it a good wash.
The smell issues were bad a few years ago, but they’ve been solved.
And if buying paint in B&Q, I love their Goodhome durable range, which is only available in matt. It is also washable.

ineedaholidayandwine · 25/07/2021 21:25

Hated it in our kitchen, prepped the walls but it would still come off and stick to the roller if we went over a patch.
We use Johnstons and if you find one of their centres they will colour match

userchange902 · 25/07/2021 22:04

We've used Valspar v500 (F&B colours matched) for 2 different shades/rooms and love it. Colour is fantastic, went on really well, looks good quality and no issues in terms of wear. Planning to use on rest of house.

userchange902 · 25/07/2021 22:07

Just to add not at all patchy, can't see my cutting in at all, did 2 coats, and it didn't smell at all putting it on (although the room smelled like a hay bale afterwards, quite a small room through!)

MaMelon · 25/07/2021 22:09

I love it. Never had a problem with any of the colours we’ve used in our rooms.

Kitkat151 · 27/07/2021 20:54

Love Valpar....used it in all our rooms....always go for the Matt emulsion gold tins ( more hardwiring) ....all the kids handprints just wash / wipe off

Windingroad21 · 27/07/2021 20:58

I’ve been really impressed with it; range and price. Last decorator didn’t moan about it either, bonus.

I did paint some of my kitchen myself a couple of years back with it and it went on flawlessly. Never noticed it being thicker as PP have said, just decent quality for a sensible price. Both rare these days Grin
