I've been looking to join a house move thread, there's an extension build one but cannot see one for moving? Anyone else want to stress and moan and cheer during their move?

We were planning an extension back in Feb and March this year. We had the architect round and sent off our plans to the council.

Cut to Father's Day and DH had massive reservations about the extension due to rising costs on building supplies and it could cost up to £100k for a little bit more floorspace. We viewed a new build we liked on a plot at the edge of the development overlooking the pond. For us to reserve it we had to have sold our house so we went on the market. I was expecting our 3 bed semi could be worth £230k wouldn't want to take less than £220k. It went up for £250k on the Friday evening and it sold on Tues for £10k over 😲. Happy days. Got our name down on new build but looking into the estate management fees concerned us so we started looking nearby and found a 4 bed detached on a quiet street that we had our offer accepted on.

Currently in the decluttering and selling stage (FB marketplace is brilliant). We have a storage container locally as we likely will have to move to Mums for a few weeks temporarily.

We are moving this year, hopefully next month! We’re FTBs at the age of 42. We had an offer accepted on a house in late May. It’s a chain free purchase and had been pretty straightforward so far. We’ve had a survey done and there’s no major problems that can’t be dealt with once we’ve moved.

We’re buying a 5 bed link-detached house built in 1971 on a quiet road surrounded by countryside which we got for the asking price of £265k. It was originally a 3 bed house but has been extended. We offered on a few other houses that went to final best and final offers, and sold for crazy prices. What a mad time to be buying a house! However the house we’ve bought feels like the right choice for us. It’s a lovely village location with a duck pond and good schools for my son.

When I spoke to my solicitor on Friday they had just received responses to their enquiries and were looking through them. Next step is exchange of contracts, very exciting! I’m busy packing, decluttering and trying to go with the flow!

Best of luck on your purchase OP. We also looked into buying a new build but the maintenance fees put us off too. Also the small rooms and too many bathrooms. I much prefer the 1970s build.

I’m at the end of a long road. I won’t bore you with details as I’ve written on a couple other buying threads, but after selling three properties and downsizing by half to afford to move back to London, two aborted purchases, six weeks in three different holiday lets and three hotels, I finally collected the keys yesterday. We spent several hours yesterday marking out sofa and table shapes and sizes out. Because the house (three bed plus box mid terrace) is so much smaller than our last place, none of our furniture would fit (I’ve kept guest bed for me, two chest of drawers and two mattresses). The house needs updating (new bathrooms, kitchen, carpets and redecorating).
Now my problem: I may not have brought much furniture and I decluttered as much as possible, but I have tons of stuff and a lot less storage. About 50 paintings for starters. All the wardrobes need redoing. So I’m struggling with organising where to put it all while the work is being done. I’ll get a storage unit for the stuff I kept in my old storage unit (Christmas stuff, archived family records, extra paintings and so on). And I do need some basic furniture- dining table and chairs, sofa. But lead times!! 12-14 weeks seems the norm, even for ‘in stock’ pieces! I’d like us to have one room as a sanctuary from it all, which seems to be living room as it only needs one door blocking up and repainting and a bit of joining work. Ugh, I haven’t even started trying to find trades!

Hi , we have just had our offer accepted on a property. The stress I had the first time buying 4 years ago is back I hate the waiting around for full mortgage to be approved, then with my naturally anxious and stressed personality every other little bit of house buying that comes with it !

Selling was a breeze !

I sent everything requested back the same day to the solicitors etc and paid monies on account . It's not even been a week Grin and I am having sleepless nights already haha X

Our last purchase took nearly a year to go through I couldn't handle that again! D

We’re moving Friday hopefully (still waiting for completion date confirmation).
Got married 2 weeks ago and back from honeymoon last Friday so haven’t had time for much selling etc. Had to take loads to the tip, given a lot to charity etc but it’s all been a mad rush job. Still feeling fairly calm which is unusual for me Grin
