Live in a house with no driveway or car access from the road

The house we want to rent has a long front garden, its 50m from the house to the road on a slight incline. Next door has a driveway that runs all the way up right next to 'our' garden. Next door have said strictly no access except to move in/out..
Family of 5 so the typical big weekly food shop to carry from the street to the house. Plus have to think about the usual gubbins like loading for camping, sports equipment, possible deliveries of large things -granted that is not every day stuff but is useful to be able to have access if needed.
I walk 3 miles a day to work/school so I'm not a lazy, car focused person, but its convenience. I have lived in flats where there is no immediate parking but at least you can get close for access when needed.

I am considering buying a trolley thing to cart stuff back and fore but I think this hot weather is getting to my head and I cant actually imagine what it would be like doing it in winter but...it can't be nice.
Not to mention the times I have to pop back when you have forgotten something and usually in a hurry!
Has anyone ever had this and is it a right pain in the arse or do you get use to it?
House is perfect in other ways.

if there is a level path (no steps) and you have a trolley, I think you'd get used to it.

Is there also a back garden? If so, is there potential to put in a drive through the front like the neighbours have? you could use the 'green bricks' that let grass grow through so it doesn't look like a drive, if you are only using it occasionally.

HeathersFeathers · 20/07/2021 18:59

No we cannot put those green bricks down as there is a hedge at the bottom of the garden so no access from street directly to garden (We are also renting so cannot do any 'improvements')

Have you actually rented it? I wouldn't if it was me - after the recent rain having to go 50ft back and forth to empty car - ugh. However I am buying a terraced house and even though every time I've been there I've been able to park close to it, there will be times I can't. But even then I could just block the road a few minutes to dump stuff out. A cart may work but inevitably it will be at the wrong end when you need it!

We live in a house that is only accessible along a narrow footpath. 2 words - online groceries. Even if it's just the bulky items like loo rolls and cereal once a month.

omg its not this house is it?

sorry it must not be, i skim read and didnt see the word rent.

HeathersFeathers · 23/07/2021 08:25

@mklanch no its not that one.....but OMG! What a bizarre set up. I found the paintings scattered around more interesting than the house though!
Anyway....no access for online groceries as you cannot get a delivery van (apart from a transit) up the narrow drive. Neighbours won't allow any access to the drive anyway, so its a moot point really. I have never had groceries delivered, but not sure they would deliver to the front door from the road. There are a few steps then a path. (its 50m not 50ft).

Sounds completely fine...
When I lived in a flat the delivery guy would park outside the block and load up his trolley thing, you could get a small ramp if you think the steps will cause bother. So you can park on the road outside normally? I.e. you don't need to walk further to s car park? Doesn't sound like a problem at all (but I lived in a block of flats carting 2 non walking babies back and forth to my parking space a 10 min walk away so compared to that anything is luxury!)

They deliver to our house and we are about 50m along a footpath that's only just over a metre wide in places. They have barrows for the crates.
