Where did you buy your bathroom from?

I am currently in the process of moving home and really want to change the bathroom. I’ve been looking at a few bathroom showrooms but none have really stood out to me. Any suggestions where to look or where you bought yours? I live in the Solihull area so if you know a showroom near me then that would be great!

Ordered it as components. With white and chrome it's easy to match. It might take a bit longer to identify the best makers and search out prices, and the trades may not all be available at the same time.

Fitted by local plumber who also did the tiling. Plastering by local plasterer. Tiles and extras from Topps who happen to have a shed near me.

Carron bath, Twyford WC and basin, Bristan taps and wastes, Aqualisa shower.

Accessories were a chrome on brass range, sold at the time by several sheds as an own brand.

Plumbworld sometimes have some good deals.

My project cost included zero contribution to glossy showrooms and salesmen.

Thanks! @PigletJohn. I was tempted to buy it all separately and just get a local fitter to do it.

Same as PigletJohn. Spent a couple of nights on Pinterest looking at things I liked didn’t like, knew I wanted a fairly timeless bathroom look.

Got a local joiner (needed to change internal walls) who also knew a plumber he worked well with and a tiler. Friend is a trained electrician. Planning and completion wise took longer as I waited for sales on the things I wanted (but it was worth it).

Important to me was a waterfall shower (Grohe) and also got Grohe Taps for the bath and sink. Needed a bath which could take the shower so hunted online for a good L shape one (from MK bathrooms). Also got the radiator, valves and bath filler waste from them. Waited for the Porcelonasa sale and got my tiles from them, as well as the vanity sink, and toilet. It was easy to make the white things match!

Budget wise I went for a Quickstep Floor (also sourced online in the sale).

Yes it took longer as I had to manage ordering all the parts but I have what I think is a beautiful bathroom at a fraction of the cost. Good luck with your project.

@ostrom thank you! If you don’t mind - could you please share a picture of your bathroom? It sounds really good and I too am interested in a Grohe overhead shower!

@Hairbrush123 - of course Grin

The Grohe shower and taps came from Victorian Plumbing (again pleased with their service). I'm really pleased I treated myself to it! (I compromised on the "square" shape - it was much cheaper than the round at the time but actually, I'm pleased with the finished look (chose the cube taps and a square L shape to match).

I went for two untiled walls (budget again) but also means I can have some fun changing to a different colour at some point (I couldn't decide between the soft pink I've gone for a soft sage green, so I can change it at some point).

@ostrom wow! That is stunning! I am going to pinch your style with a few tweaks to my en-suite. I love the warmth of the colours. Thank you so much!

You’ll have to update us how you get on! Good luck!

I went for Victoria Plum, like PP said they'll pretty much match if they're white and chrome, I chose the taps from the same range for consistency and then selected my favourite bath, shower, toilet, and vanity sink. We knocked out a boiler cupboard and moved pretty much everything around so needed a drainage plumber, plumber, tiler, plasterer, and a floor guy too. It's taken us ages but we've used mates and done some ourselves... it's still not finished but it's getting there.

Victoria Plum were really good, what we wanted was available with short delivery times, no complaints about quality for the price either and the bath in particular is amazing

And Tile Mountain for the tiles have been great too

When we did our family bathroom in 2018 and shower room last year we bought all our components separately too, mostly online, including a few bits (new) from eBay.

Our bath tap (Keuco) was from one online supplier as the local showroom who gave us a good price on the Keuco basin tap couldn't match the online price 🙄

Sanitary ware was a mix of Clearwater (basin), Sottini (bath) and a discontinued gothic style high level WC (Chatsworth) from various online sources - we have fairly eclectic tastes, lol!

We don't have a shower in that bathroom. Our shower room stuff is a mix of Hansgrohe Axor and Villeroy & Boch with a few vintage pieces thrown in.

We're about to do the ground floor cloakroom and have a Gessi brushed gold tap, Duravit WC, Karndean flooring and am about to pull the trigger on a Poured Project basin 😉

Our vanity units are repurposed pieces of vintage furniture.

The tiles were from Your Tiles and Fired Earth outlet.

Hebeee · 20/07/2021 17:58

Our heated towel rails were also from eBay 😉

ViaRia · 20/07/2021 18:05

We ordered from Victoria Plum. I was happy with the delivery and quality feel of the products. And I loved my bathroom once it was all done.

However this is definitely not a recommendation … we now have an issue three years down the line. A shower part is broken and I believe it is down to poor fitting (so not VP’s initial fault). I’m unable to contact them for a replacement part - they supposedly have an online chat but I can’t get passed the unhelpful robot to speak to a real person. There’s no telephone number and no email address.
The product manufacturer is called Mode. I tried to email them but I received a bounce-back from VP (so clearly they are essentially the same company..?) saying that the email address from their own website is incorrect.
Urgh, very frustrating. I’m sure many have had good experiences with them but just be warned!

ItsSnowJokes · 20/07/2021 18:15

Ordered all separately. Tiles from tile giant, bathroom suite from trace price bathrooms, led mirror from local merchants. Waited for sales etc......

We needed storage so have a storage sink and a tallboy unit.

Hebeee · 20/07/2021 18:53

Sorry, complete brain fog 🙄 Not Keuco at all but Utopia....doh!!!

Hairbrush123 · 20/07/2021 20:17

Thanks all! I really appreciate all these ideas. I feel compelled to show my bathroom now after seeing everyone else’s! I think DIY is the way forward as my partner and I didn’t like what we’ve seen in showrooms like John Lewis and Wickes. I plan to visit a Hansgrobe showroom in London sometime this week so hopefully I’ll find inspiration for shower heads!
The first one is the main bathroom which is a good size and the second one is my en-suite!

@Hairbrush123 they're huge! You could have a lot of fun redesigning those, enjoy it, good luck!

Thanks! I have lots of inspiration from this thread.

This might be really frowned upon but I got a bathroom man round- he designed a fabulous bathroom for us. I googled every single item and found I could get a much better price so I bought it all separately and gave the design to a plumber. Saved me a lot of money.

Hairbrush123 · 20/07/2021 21:17

@Chattercino that sounds lovely! Do you mind sharing a picture of it? I really want as many ideas as possible for my bathroom! If you rather not then that’s ok!

In our old house we used the John Lewis design and installation service. The fitter did a really good job so we kept his details and we’ve used him in the new house and he’s about 25% cheaper than going through JL.
