Custom fronts for IKEA kitchens

Hi,

We are looking at using a custom door front for an IKEA Metod kitchen. I have looked at various options, including asking a joiner to make the doors from scratch. We want flat doors, preferably Fenix-veneered ply.

Has anyone compared prices for Plykea vs Husk vs Custom Fronts? There are so many options and it's hard to get an idea of comparable prices.

www.nakeddoors.com/products

I heard of this company on radio 4 a few years ago.

Sorry I know this does the opposite of answer your question.

Have a look at:

Thanks @evilpea and @beakyok. Both those also look good. It's pretty hard to get a comparable price but so far Husk looks to be the best value. I am really hoping my joiner comes back to me with a good price because this is really stretching my budget....maybe I can live without an oven for a few months?!

I think if you email them your plan they’ll send you an estimate, which will allow you to do a comparison.

We’re thinking of doing the same (although a different fronts company to the ones you’ve listed) and they sent me a quote based on my architect’s plan for our kitchen.

Yes, send the IKEA plans – most places will do a quote based on the plan: send them the plan including the IKEA doors and end panels, etc, so they know exactly which bits you need. But don’t forget to take the IKEA doors and panels off your calculation IYSWIM.

We decided against it in the end as just too costly for a not-forever house with a compromise kitchen anyway; but shaker doors did a pretty good quote and I think they do flat slab as well as shaker style.

It’s cheaper if you do a design with as few end panels and filler pieces as possible.

Thanks - yes we'll get the plans over soon, just need to finish them! @citydweller which company have you been looking at?

There was a recent thread on this subject:

kitchen with custom doors www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property/4286791-ikea-kitchen-with-custom-doors

Sorry am in a bit of a rush and have said quite a lot in that thread which I hope you'll find useful!

You can actually live without the doors for ages. IKEA drawers work without the doors and obviously you can use the cupboards without doors.

wineymummy · 23/07/2021 11:20

Is that true about the drawers @cestunestilo - I thought the drawer fronts were integral? In fact I asked my dad to check his ikea kitchen and he said they are integral to the structure of the drawer. If not, then we would definitely buy the units now and get the doors later. I obviously don't want to buy some now and some later in vase there isn't a good match.
Thanks everyone by the way! Waiting on some final quotes now...then a decision to make.

Ikea do internal drawers that are not integral (Maximera, soft close, and Exceptionell, which are the push to open ones). You can (and I will be) have those within cupboard, drawers within drawers etc. But they also do a version of both of these drawer systems that require a cabinet front to be attached - grabbed this image off the Ikea website to show you what I mean.

Thanks Zinnia that makes sense. We spent a very looonng morning studying the ikea website on Saturday and have an appointment booked with the kitchen planner now. Having actually added everything we need to the basket we are pretty sure custom fronts are now going to remain a pipe dream!
