Is this something available in the UK? I have catalogues from Magnet, Howdens, Benchmarxx but can't find storage options in the kickboards.

I have long legs on my units and baskets under. Full of shite and clutter, but at least it's not actually in the cupboards!

Any competent joiner would surely be able to make you some roll out drawers though with the fronts using the kick boards or maybe matching drawer fronts if they are the right size.

You want these people https://www.drawerboxes.co.uk/plinth-pod-with-blum-tandembox-soft-close-drawer-tip-on-push-to-open-made-to-measure-assembled-c2x27528016

Have them in current kitchen (retrofitted), getting them in new one. They are brilliant. You need a minimum plinth height of 120mm, 150 is best. They were very helpful for me when it came to measuring up for the retrofitted ones, putting them in with a new kitchen is a bit easier.

Ok - thank you!

Quite liking a few Howdens options at the moment. Will these drawers be able to match the colours? How does it work?

BlackAlys · 20/07/2021 09:17

Ikea don't offer plinth drawers as a standard part of their range, though you could hack some with their drawer fittings if you want to.

The place I linked supplies the complete box, which sits under your base cabinet (any brand, as long as you can raise the unit if the standard leg/plinth height is less than 120mm). It's pretty straightforward and the drawer boxes themselves are good quality, Blum fittings (Ikea use Blum hinges). I researched this extensively when looking to retrofit my current kitchen a couple of years ago.

Zinnia · 20/07/2021 09:29

Ikea base units hang from a wall-mounted suspension rail, which can be fixed at any height you like, although their standard plinth height is 80mm. So my own plan is just to hang them slightly higher, put drawers underneath, and have a taller plinth.

Thanks everyone. Great ideas here.

Black I was wondering this too as pp said it seems that special companies do it, I'm sure I saw an ad when Google it was about 100 £ per drawer?

Muststopeating · 20/07/2021 10:23

I am 99% sure that Howdens do these as standard.

Quite sure Ikea don't (we wre having an Ikea kitchen and I have studied them to death).

Soundofshuna · 20/07/2021 10:40

Howdens do, we have them in our utility ! And are getting them in our new kitchen shortly. Such a sensible idea!

Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 10:40

I have just looked at howdens and cant see them?

Soundofshuna · 20/07/2021 12:09

They call them plinth drawers, have just checked and definitely there.

ElizabethTudor · 20/07/2021 12:11

Howdens do do them.

Sorry realised I didn't answer your question (academic if you are going for Howdens, but just in case useful), the plinth itself forms the front of the drawer.
Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 13:41

Does the draw have runners or wheels or does it drag on the floor

Not my thread Blush but thanks re the word plinth, it seems to me plinth has several meanings in kitchen. I'd called those kick boards

Zinnia · 20/07/2021 17:28

And Americans call them "toe kicks" I believe...!

The drawer sits inside a box frame, enclosed on all sides save the front (which is the plinth attached to the front of the drawer runner).

There is a shadow gap of a couple of mm at the bottom to allow the drawer not to scrape on the floor, you don't notice it. The drawer itself is fully enclosed inside the box frame, so it's as free from dust etc as any other part of your base unit.

They are brilliant. Every modestly-sized kitchen should have some.

BlackAlys · 20/07/2021 18:09

More the merrier @Lemonmelonsun Smile. All this info is really useful.

My parents had a Poggenpol kitchen in about 1983 and that had plinth drawers.

Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 18:36

Can you actually kick it out in America I wonder, ikea had drawers you kick and they come out.
IKEA also did the well in which kittens.

KatyNana · 20/07/2021 20:13

I was in Magnet today, they definitely do them there.
