My Howdens kitchen is getting on for 15 years old.
It's pretty good actually - it took 12 years with a kettle used multiple times a day to bubble the wrapping on one of the cupboard doors.
We're thinking of moving but if we decide to stay, we'll do the kitchen again and would definitely consider Howdens again

Lemonmelonsun · 23/07/2021 23:02

I don't understand how doors are "bubbling" with kettles, is this because the door is above the kettle?

Where my kettle there is no door above it, also what kind of doors are warping? What type of wrap?

It’s just not as sturdy or well made. The legs are not as good, the carcass material itself is not quite as nice. Even my builder agreed that the DIY product was superior.

Lemonmelonsun · 24/07/2021 11:16

A zillion, wow thank you!
I'll see what howdens say, he was already trying to put in high cupboards, tell me drawers are expensive etc.

I'm feeling reasonably confident now re DIY kitchen order!

I got my kitchen design through via email this morning so just got to wait for them to send to fitter so can see what he quotes me

Lemonmelonsun · 24/07/2021 18:01

Mummy did you choose the style yet or what colours?

mummymayhem18 · 24/07/2021 18:59

@Lemonmelonsun yes I like the Chelford Ivory.😊. I'm just hoping I'm not going to keel over when I get the price 🤣.

Howdens, has anyone got a howdens kitchen or experience with them?
Lemonmelonsun · 24/07/2021 19:02

Mummy we also looked at Chelford, white and stone I think, we are also a u shape, about two or three cupboards less than you, laminate work top no floor quoted.
Magnet was around 5500 and DIY 3000

Go to more than one branch for a design.

I was convinced I wanted a wine fridge, the first wet lettuce said oh ok, the second guy from another branch opened my fridge and said that is where your wine goes, this is going to be a pull out larder.

He was right.

UnbeatenMum · 24/07/2021 19:17

I like mine but the laminate worktop wasn't in any way heatproof and 5 years in we have damaged it in several places. It's a light grey matt finish and it has stained too. I'm having it replaced with a composite in a few weeks. The cabinets are nice though. I went for non-Lamona appliances expect for the extractor and sink, both of which have been fine. I would get a Howden's kitchen again but would get a better quality worktop, either from them or another supplier.

FuzzyPuffling · 24/07/2021 19:55

I've gone for Chelford Ivory!

Lemonmelonsun · 24/07/2021 21:19

Chanel 5, kitchen and bathroom program!

Someone has just spent 1800 on DIY kitchen and it's beautiful.

Re all top can't you get money back?

We just had howdens for a utility room. Got quotes from various places but recommend asking the fitter to get the quote for you…it will be less even if the fitter takes a cut.

We are very happy with it.

inappropriateraspberry · 25/07/2021 08:18

We have their oven, hob and extractor. No probs so far after 18 months or so. We got 2 of their better self-cleaning ovens as they knocked the price down. They bake a good cake and we've had no problems.

Camrette · 25/07/2021 09:25

Our kitchen is overall good quality but the designer was rubbish and made loads of mistakes, the biggest being putting in two filler panels when we could actually fit another whole 60cm cupboard in. Luckily our fitter noticed and we were able to change it before everything got fitted.

Lemonmelonsun · 25/07/2021 14:10

Camrette was that after the they came to yours to measure!
One wonder's really how much training they get, I was a novice weeks ago and now I feel more confident!

@FuzzyPuffling . Great taste 👍that's what I've gone for as well🤣😊. The only thing I'm not debating is whether to change the worktop as I've gone for the Matt black laminate that is the same worktop in the brochure for the Chelford Ivory picture. Worried now it might show up a lot and mark easy? 🤷🏼‍♀️. Will have another look in the brochure,

FuzzyPuffling · 25/07/2021 17:47

I've gone for "White marble" quartz worktops. They are very pale grey in real life and I wanted everything light and bright. Also I have a big slab of marble that colour that was my granny's pastry board so that will tie in.
My table/dresser/butcher's block (which are all staying) are Victorian pine, so should warm up the whole scheme.

I currently have dark laminate and it has scratched and marked, but a lot of that happened with the previous incumbents of the house, who were not careful. It doesn't show up much - just breadcrumbs!

Lemonmelonsun · 25/07/2021 19:56

Fuzzy that sounds lovely could you link /show the marble quartz?
I was going to for marbles laminate but I'm fancying marble stone /quartz now

www.howdens.com/rooms/bathrooms/fitted-bathrooms/chelford/chelford-ivory

This is it in bathroom form! (I think)

Lily7050 · 27/07/2021 10:15

We are going for White Arabesque Silestone quartz. It is a bit paler than marble quartz.
Basically I am aiming for this look www.howdens.com/kitchens/fitted-kitchens/clerkenwell-gloss/clerkenwell-gloss-white. Though our kitchen is very small. Yet to find pale/white wood effect tiles for the floor.
Btw, thanks everybody for advice to avoid Lamona appliances. I will replace them with other brands.
But what do you think of Lamona kitchen sink? Is it ok or better get a different brand.

StiffyByng · 27/07/2021 10:43

@Lily7050 these guys have always been good for us and have a decent choice: www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=Wood%20effect%20tile#q=Wood%20effect%20tile&idx=wf_magentodefault_products&is_v=1

Lily7050 · 28/07/2021 14:42

Thanks @StiffyByng. Our builder works with CTD tiles and does not want to deal with suppliers outside London to avoid delays.
