Neighbour drilling into my wall

Hi

My kitchen extension (pre dates me moving in) wall is on my side of the boundary.

I am WFH, last week lots of noise / wall shaking etc it turns out my neighbour has drilled and attached a large parasol to my wall ! They have not asked my permission and they would know that they should.

The wall is single brick, their timber decking also goes right up to my wall but its the drilling and attaching this parasol that has upset me.

I don't want to fall out with them but this is so cheeky and I am not sure if it would damage the wall.

I don't know if to just leave it or go round & ask that they remove it & make good my wall.

What would you do ?

I woulgo round & ask that they remove it & make good my wall!

In fact, I wouldn’t ask them, I’ll tell them. CFs of the highest order.

Speak to your insurers. They should send someone to have a look and advise. You should tell the neighbours you are worried about damage and see how they respond. I agree that they should not be doing anything to your wall, it just depends if you think they will be reasonable or not. Even if they take it down, they should make good the damage.

Of course make them remove it, the cheeky feckers!

I had a similar thing a couple of years ago. The neighbour had got a joiner in to build a wooden lean to attached to our extension wall. It came out in front of the wall and was over our garden. I asked him to stop, and the neighbour came out, the joiner said the neighbour had told him I’d said it was ok! I eventually agreed that he could leave it up but it had to be further back so I wouldn’t see it. They then proceeded to store wood under it against my wall.
Last summer we had the fence replaced inside the boundary and along the extension wall so they had to move their wood. I’m afraid they barely speak to us now.

Thanks all

I don't know how they will be, they seem ok I have not had much to do with them.

I will go around so bloody cheeky.

The fence that runs that side is their fence but they stopped the fence at the wall so they are using my wall as the boundary but this was done by the previous owners & the most recent neighbours moved in about 18 months ago.

I just did a double take OP - I thought your thread was this one below - I suggest you read it and hope your neighbours are more shamefaced than these others are.

You have a single skin kitchen extension ?

confused000 · 18/07/2021 20:57

@LepusLepus oh wow I didn't see that thread thank you !

My house isn't listed but same applies if they are difficult I will pass it to the insurers but hopefully they shall take it down & make good

@Chumleymouse its a 1930 semi, so the front bit was originally the garage (now an office ) & they went out at the back which is part of the kitchen, this wall is all on my boundary.
When I brought the house the surveyor said it wasn't clear if this is single brick ??
I really want to update the kitchen ( can't afford it & won't for a while ) my plan was to look at the wall insulate or whatever needs to be done once I can do the kitchen.
