Neighbour wants to cut down hedge and replace with fence

Hello, as says - our neighbour wants to cut down the hedge between our gardens and replace it with a fence. We are semi detached. It is not clear on our title plan exactly where the boundary is but I suspect the roots of the hedge are on her side not ours (it's a big, mature hedge, quite wide).

I would prefer to keep the hedge.

Do we have a say in this? Or is it up to neighbour?

No clues from deeds, the plan is very vague but looking at where the houses join it does look like it's her hedge.

If she does fence I'll try to persuade her to put a hedgehog hole in as there are definitely some that travel that way.

Ask if you can out hedgehog gaps in - spaces for them to pass through as the silo-ing of surburban spaces is one of the big reasons for their decline.

@Bluntness100

It is down to who owns th hedge, if roots are on her side it’s likely her, if this is the case you’ve no say snd you need to plant your own hedge.
That.

It's easier to maintain a fence than a hedge so I don't blame her but you can't plant something on your side to replace it if you want.

@Simbacatisback I was reflecting on personal experience of containing small dc.

One house we lived in had a hedge which we replaced with a fence.
Our neighbor was upset about the loss of habitat for birds and I did have sympathy for this.

But they had a pond and the hedge wouldn't keep dc contained in our garden. It simply wasn't as safe as a fence.
Both the children and the dog could have easily wiggled through it and ended up in the pond.

I could see the same applying to access to a road, other gardens etc.
