I feel old! Whilst researching shower enclosures for our new loft bathroom, I’ve realised so many showers are walk-in ones now. Like the below:

www.sanctuary-bathrooms.co.uk/merlyn-black-framed-shower-wall/

Does the water not splash all over the floor outside the tray?? I get if the shower tray is massively like 120x 90, but I’m looking for a shower that is 800x800.

Can anyone with this sized walk in shower enlighten me please, does it splash or not?

Thanks

800 x 800? Water will definitely go everywhere if it doesn’t have glass all round.

Livingintheclouds · 12/07/2021 21:38

Yes it will if it's that small. And also depends on how you shower! I'd enclose it unless at least 1000mm.

TranquilityofSolitude · 12/07/2021 21:49

Never mind splashing - wouldn't it be cold? I hate the moment when I open the enclosure door to reach for my towel, so can't imagine that it would be pleasant to shower without the enclosure to keep the heat in.

You’ve confirmed my thinking! Hadn’t even thought about trapping the heat in, very good point.

We’re going to put a new shower in a guest en suite (to replace a hideous old bath with overhead shower). Shower tray will be 1400x900 and our fitter advised against walk in shower for precisely the reasons mentioned above. You can get some really nice sliding door enclosures that are almost frameless and a nearly flat tray, so we’re going for one of these. On reflection I think the walk ins only really work if you have a vast space to play with.

When I get an adapted bungalow, I'm going to have a shower with just one glass panel & a low threshold tray, I hate that pimpled rubber flooring they put down in social housing & being autistic means shower curtains affect my sensibilities, I hate not being able to see through & the thought of a wet shower curtain touching me turns my stomach.

On a small shower get a door that opens outwards not a slide or bifold, makes it feel a lot bigger.

PurplePansy05 · 13/07/2021 06:06

Hinged door is also far easier to keep clean than sliding. Don't go pivot though, and I think if you can go bigger than 800x800, do, thatsa small enclosure.

bumbledeedum · 13/07/2021 07:48

You won't be able to get an open enclosure for a 800X800 tray, most of them start at 1200 but 1000 as an absolute minimum.

chillibeansauce · 13/07/2021 07:49

I have 900 x 900 and a 400 flipper screen to keep the splashes in

BarkingUpTheWrongRoseBush · 13/07/2021 08:27

We’ve got a metre long shower tree and 700 glass panel. Low threshold tray but it’s up a bit due to pipes.

I wasn’t that fussed when we chose it, but I love it. Not cold as we got underfloor electric getting fitted at same time, v cheap to install and run.

Also has a switch outside, digital, that gets it up to temperature so you don’t have to stand in shower naffing about.

It replaced an enclosed small shower that I hated.

Surely only as cold as having a shower over a bath? We've never had a separate shower enclosure and I've very rarely been cold. In fact, it's actually better than having to open the shower door because you don't get that blast of cold air.
