gliders/felt pads for furniture on LVT floors

What do you use to stop furniture scratching new floor?

Felt pads always seem to come off. Does hot glue gun or something actually keep them on, especially chairs with slanted legs? Mine already have sort of plastic ends on that I think are meant to be protective - wonder if this would be enough, but they don't feel very smooth. Not sure if I'd have to get those off somehow first to put felt pads on. I'm not sure the chairs are the right sort to have the nail in ones, though maybe if I took the plastic bits off.

Or I have read about magiGlide, for all furniture but especially for things like washing machine/dishwasher - anyone tried these and know if they worth the extra cost? Or do they fall off as well, as they are also self adhesive. They are recommended by Karndean as good for LVT floors.

With LVT floors, do you bother putting them under things like desks and tables that rarely get moved (but could slide if bumped etc and scratch the floor that way). Presumably not under bookshelves and so on that don't move much, as it would be more likely to destabilise them.

For chairs , desk , if moved etc on wooden floors I would use the standard felt pads with super glue and just be careful

Not sure if that helps.

We have the stick on felt pads from IKEA and find they last several years before the odd one falls off and needs replacing. Maybe the ones you have aren't as sticky?

I used soft Velcro on mine, they do come off eventually but a few years

thanks, hadn't thought of looking at ikea. Maybe mine just aren't sticky enough!

Magiglides are absolutely useless. They're meant for carpet, so I can only assume that any of the reviews of them on Amazon from so called lvt owners, are fake. Don't waste your money like I did when I first got my Karndean flooring. It was harder to shift things with them on, than before I bought them!

I'm lucky enough to have a family member who works at furniture village, and he gave me loads of the felt pads that they use in the store. Brilliant, and better than the cheap ones I tried after the magiglide debacle. I don't know who makes theirs though..I'll see if he knows.

oh thanks, that's worth knowing before I fork out for them! Their website goes on about them being Karndean approved etc, so I assumed that might be the best thing to get, at least for the appliances.

If you do find out who makes the good felt ones, do please post.

Would you use felt ones even on dishwashers/washing machiens/fridges, or for those would you use some other sort? The magiglide looked amazing in the video for pulling out the washing machine, which is what caught my eye!

I currently have vinyl that doesn't scratch, and carpet, but the kitchen chairs (from ebay) had these plastic ends on, so I don't know if I should unscrew those and replace with felt ones when the floor is redone.

And everything else used to be on carpet, so I'll need something for the sofas anyway, and maybe the desk and kitchen table. I assume that the shelves will be OK as they are.

And definitely the dishwasher, washing machine, and I suppose fridge.

I don't put them under my machines. On the rare occasion I need to pull them out, I slip cardboard under the front feet, slide them forwards until I can get to the back feet and slide cardboard under those too, then pull the machine all the way out.
I would do the same if I ever needed to move a bookcase too.

I've always found the stick-on felt pads really annoying, as they will inevitably start to come off after a couple of years.

Felt pads that screw on have proved a more satisfactory solution here - like these: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08QZ2MW2S/?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

thank you - those might be good for the kitchen chairs, as they look like they could replace exactly the screw-on plastic things that are on them.

Then I could always use the stick on ones for the table, desk and sofa legs, as those don't really get moved very often. When they do get moved, it's just me trying to drag them around, though, as I can't lift them myself, so they probably do need something.

Not sure about the appliances yet.
