Brand new walls that are uneven

Hello,

We are currently doing our house up and some of the walls have had tape and joint done and others skimmed. We asked the decorator to paint the sitting room in a dark green eggshell paint. The problem is that the walls are uneven. We can see skim marks all over the walls and generally a lot of unevenness. We can see the plasterboard joins in the ceilings. Decorator has said to us that the problem is the paint- as eggshell is very unforgiving and so it highlights all the flaws. We need this fixed as it is extremely stressful to just look at the walls but no one is agreeing on the root cause. Can anyone help identify the problem please?

I have newly plastered walls and you can't see anything on mine and I have white walls, they've not done a very good job and trying to get out of it !

The walls need to be skimmed after the tape is done. Did the decorators do the plastering too? It should be flat. I do think that eggshell is wrong finish for walls though. Did they advise you to choose this finish?

Looks like a crap plastering job tome. Tbf mine going up to my loft conversion is similar and was done by the loft company’s contractors, in comparison to my hall, stairs and first landing where I sourced the plasterer which is as smooth as paper.

I would expect a good decorator to fill minor imperfections though such as a crack in the cei, img, but a good plasterer shouldn’t leave lines in the ceiling.

That's going to need reskimming.

On another note, if you're finding it really stressful, I'd suggest taking a step back and a big deep breath. It's a painted wall and it's completely fixable.
