Am I nuts to consider laminate flooring in the bedrooms?

Just that. My DH is American and lots of the houses where his family live have laminate flooring with area carpets in the bedrooms. Strikes me as more hygienic. My mum thinks it could be noisy and that is wouldn't necessarily be easier to clean. Any thoughts or experience to share?

We’ve got it in all our bedrooms, never noticed any issues with noise etc. Have children and pets so it’s been easily cleaned many a time, easy to Hoover and mop. I’d never go back to carpets in bedrooms

We’ve had both. Woden floors are colder than carpet. Wooden floors are easier to keep clean and don’t smell. I prefer non carpet over all. Wear slippers and learn to tread lightly 😊

Carpet on stairs and landing but only because it’s the last thing in the house to replace. My ideal would be to have varnished wooden stairs and landing with a runner

Nobody has mentioned under floor heating. You can put ufh with hard floors (upstairs too) and it's wonderfully warm underfoot.

I would have proper wood laminate on all floors except the kitchen & bathroom (tile or vinyl). TBH I'd probably have carpet on the stairs though, it's safer as it's not slippery. I plan to get the rooms redone one by one. We had to get the cheapest carpet possible for this house, & could barely afford that as it still cost a fortune. Grey & shitty but at least it's neutral.

We have laminate or tiles in the whole house apart from the stairs which is carpeted.
I was going to sand and varnish it but nearly slipped down a wooden stairs in someone else's house and decided carpet was safer.

I have all hard flooring, haven't had carpets now for years and won't ever go back. I don't find them noisy or cold. I have pets so a lot easier to keep clean.

We have engineered wood throughout. Feels nicer than laminate and definitely cleaner. Never noticed it being cold but I always wear socks or slippers. No pets or asthma but we've had to deal with toddler vomiting, potty training and toy teacups of water being spilt!
