Patchy Paint woes (photos attached)

It’s Wickes tough and washable (or something like that). This is the 4th coat. It’s leaving these weird streaks, as if the pigment isn’t mixed properly. But it is mixed, and I’ve stirred the painted thoroughly every time I use it. It’s not the wall colour showing through, the streaks are on the surface of the paint. what am I doing wrong? I’ve painted many walls before and never had this problem.
Thanks for your help.

Are they brand new paintbrushes? If not could it be some colour that you used before that left on the brushes?

Thingsthatgo · 10/07/2021 18:03

Yes, brand new brushes and rollers. But, that is exactly what it looks like... a bit of left over paint.

How long since they were painted? Sometimes it can take a while for the paint to dry and a wet inconsistent layer could be visible?

Thingsthatgo · 10/07/2021 20:17

They were painted yesterday. I thought it might be inconsistencies in the dryness, but it hasn’t improved at all since this morning... could it still get better do you think?

Wickes is shit for paint.

It needs to be stirred so thoroughly before each duck of the brush/roller it's more trouble than it's worth.

I have had this with matt, silk, gloss and some of their 'novelty' metallic paints as well.

Gingernaut · 10/07/2021 20:21

Dunk.

I don't paint with ducks

Sunflowergirl1 · 11/07/2021 07:45

Just buy some Johnstones trade emulsion. Brilliant paint

Noworneverever · 11/07/2021 08:20

I had this with Dulux Matt paint, but never with their kitchen or bathroom paint. It's only one room and in a bedroom so I just ignore it when I walk past. No matter how many coats it dried like that all over the room. Next time I'll do the whole house in kitchen paint.

Isn’t that a sign of uneven rolling technique, or the previous coat not being fully dry before being painted over?

Which roller type are you using?

Thingsthatgo · 11/07/2021 16:44

@Sewaccidentprone I think the paint was properly dry because we left 24hours between coats... it could be my technique though Blush
The roller is just a boggo B and Q one. Should I be using something better?

I would think that a short hair roller would work the best, rather than along hair or sponge.

Sewaccidentprone · 11/07/2021 23:15

Long hair. Also don’t overload the roller with paint and use long firm strokes.

I’m not a professional, but have been decorating since I was 14.

Is the same mark coming through every layer? If so, it's a surface preparation problem of some kind.
If not, did you stir the paint really well? It looks to me a bit like the paint isn't very well mixed- possibly at the bottom of the tin, where a patch of the lighter, heavier pigments can lurk if you don't mix it really well. You need to get a nice wood stick and stir and scrape it all round the bottom of the can as you mix until you can't feel anything down there but the shiny base.
For a really good flat finish, I like claypaint, but it's not as durable as bog standard modern matt.
Personally, I use Dulux Trade when I use modern paints.
