Washer dryer behind a cabinet door (not integrated)

Kai1981 · 07/07/2021 15:24

Will most standard washer dryers fit bit behind an ordinary kitchen cabinet door?

I don't want an integrated appliance because I know it's difficult to move/fix so I'm fine with a cabinet door.

But I want to check that a standard washer dryer will definitely still fit?

Thanks

The best thing to do would be to check the dimensions of your appliance and then measure your cupboard to see if it will fit.

Kai1981 · 07/07/2021 15:42

Thanks, I'm mainly worried about any wires or pipes that go behind the unit would push it forward. Just trying to gauge if there's anything I should be aware of.

They're mostly too deep IME. You would likely need a deeper worktop and to bring other units forward

We struggled with this! Our old washer dryer had been fine but newer models seem deeper. I wanted another Bosch but had to settle for a Zanussi. I think you can compare measurements on sites like AO.

Livingintheclouds · 07/07/2021 16:13

No. They need 7cm at the back for pipes and most are about 56cm deep, plus often the dimensions don't include the door.

And integrated isn't that hard to move or fix.

We’ve got a wide full height cupboard at the end of a run that’s set forwards from the worktop. The right side is a broom cupboard, the left side is open back to the wall and has a free standing washing machine, with shelves over it for a microwave etc.

Kai1981 · 07/07/2021 16:26

Thank you. Sounds like it's safest to stick with integrated.

They are definitely too deep. We had our cab custom made to fit the Samsung Auto Dispense and when it arrived discovered the dimensions on the website were for the top of the machine, not taking into account the slope on the front! So annoying.

youkiddingme · 07/07/2021 16:56

My experience is not. Having said that, getting rid of my integrated washer and just bobbing a standard one in its place was a decision I'm so glad I made. The load capacity is enormous by comparison with my integrated one and any repair bills are much lower - our go-to appliance fixers much prefer stand-alone equipment to work on and charge accordingly/

We have a standard washer behind a door but the worktops were made deeper when the kitchen was fitted to accommodate it.

Kai1981 · 07/07/2021 17:43

Thanks. I have a tiny kitchen so deep worktops aren't an option unfortunately.

Sorry, this isn't answering your question but just wanted to tell you my nightmare washed dryer experience! Tomorrow I am finally getting mine replaced after two and a half years of break downs. It has been written off by the insurance company as I have had so many call outs (for lots of different faults). Like you, I have a tiny kitchen and thought it would be the solution. Hopefully you will be luckier than me, but if there is anyway you could put a dryer elsewhere I would - can you stack? Fit a condenser one in another room? I'm getting a separate washer plus a compact 4kg tumble dryer that takes up much less room, but it's vented, so am going to try with a condenser box. If you go for the washed dryer make sure you have a good guarantee!

Kai1981 · 08/07/2021 00:20

Thank you. I've had two washer dryers in the past and never had any issues but perhaps I've been lucky.

Good luck with yours though, hope it gets sorted quickly.

Most problems with washer dryers are caused by people overloading them. They can't dry as much as they can wash. So the load needs split before being put on to dry.

Alwaysfrank · 10/07/2021 14:25

I discovered that Beko do some shallower depth appliances but I'm not sure whether that includes a washer/dryer as I was only interested in a dryer. Maybe worth a google?

bouncydog · 11/07/2021 08:40

Having used a washer drier whilst on holiday no way would I ever buy one! I would rather have a separate washing machine with a 1600 spin and dry stuff on a rack as the washer driers imho just don’t work. DD had one and only used the washer as the driers are rubbish.

Lellochip · 11/07/2021 08:59

I think you're more likely to find a shallower depth freestanding one than an integrated. I replaced my old integrated washer with a new one assuming they were all the same size. I've looked at others and I can find a few at ~45cm.

You're best bet is to just triple measure how much space you have, and then find a company who can advice on depth, including pipes etc?
