How long does this normally take?

Your local council website should give an indication of their decision time frames. 3 months is not unusual,

Bloomsburyreader · 05/07/2021 22:18

Thanks loads- I'll check the website.

8 weeks if not complex, 13 if complex and in some circumstances longer by agreement between the applicant and LPA. The Planning Portal has details...

Yes, as above your local authority should give an indication on their web page. Be aware though that if you live somewhere with a wildly inefficient council like I do then add a couple of months to the time frame. Permitted development can be quicker to get through if appropriate re what you want to do!

mildlymiffed · 05/07/2021 22:24

Be aware that many councils currently have a large backlog. So you may need to add 3 weeks onto the beginning to have your application registered. And if there is anything missing this could add time on. A small household application after this should be 8 weeks

mildlymiffed · 05/07/2021 22:25

And opposed to being wildly inefficient many many councils are woefully under resourced. Planners are currently like hens teeth and many councils are working on a somewhat skeleton staff.

We’ve just been through the process of getting planning permission. It took exactly 8 weeks.

Great info, thanks loads. We won't be in a rush as probably aiming to get the builders in next summer but helpful to know in order to get some plans etc in place in time
