We are considering moving but absolutely nothing on the market.

Is this because of the end of stamp duty holiday and everyone is just holiding tight?

Any thoughts?

Same here. Have a one bedroom house. We would like a two or three bedroom as we now have a DS. We'd also like a bigger garden. However, there is absolutely nothing on the market. About a month ago it seemed to have picked up a bit, but I looked again last week and it's certainly dried up again. So, we're holding off putting our place on the market for now. Pfft.. what to do?

TryingtoBuy2021 · 04/07/2021 19:58

We’re moving into rented and so keen to buy having broken the chain and sold our flat but there is very little coming on the market at the moment. Very much hoping it picks up.

Itscoldouthere · 04/07/2021 20:01

I’m buying had the offer accepted late May but we sold last year so are chain free we are buying from a divorcing couple so no onward purchase for them either, I was very reluctant to get into a long chain in the current market.

readytosell · 04/07/2021 20:02

I'm in the middle of chain that is still growing. God knows when it will complete.

If my buyer pulls out, so am I. I don't absolutely need to move and have other options, but renting isn't one at the moment - that market is too bonkers where I'm moving to.

InpatientGardener · 04/07/2021 20:05

We're going on the market this week, relocating but its not essential that we do. We've seen maybe 3-4 houses we could look at but none absolutely perfect. I think we'll get an offer on our house then give it a month of looking, then decide whether to compromise on our next house or stay put. Not prepared to go into rented.

Dustyboots · 04/07/2021 20:10

Same as above - up for sale and lots of viewings booked, but there’s not much for us to buy and nothing we like. We’ll give it a while. We do need to move but are happy here so won’t be pushed. Certainly won’t sell and then rent.

Livingintheclouds · 04/07/2021 20:23

I'm buying. Two purchases fell through but hoping this one makes it. But I've been keeping an eye on the market and there hasn't been a flood of houses put back on due to buyers pulling out as they missed the deadline. And very few new ones have come on. I think the market does tend to slow a bit over the summer (sales complete, but not many new ones as people go on holiday etc). I think they'll be more on early September.

I've noticed this too. Was hoping a load of broken chains might mean some properties come back but either people have realised they can't find anything else and carrying on anyway, or they're just coming off the market and waiting. The mini flood hasn't happened, it's still just a trickle.

I'm looking to buy a family home for me and 2 DC. Sold last house just before stamp duty deadline to allow buyers to complete, so living with family with deposit ready to go, and decision in principle lined up.

There are a few houses coming on to the market where I am looking (SW London), but nothing quite right. As I'm chain free, and wanting st least 3 bedrooms, I'm ideally looking for a vendor who is downsizing, with no chain.

Going to wait until the end of July, will then accept that I have to start compromising on my current "must-haves".

Xuli · 04/07/2021 22:59

We had an offer accepted in early April, still no joy with the vendors purchasing and no idea if they’ll end up in a chain too. We’re keeping an eye out on the market and might make an offer on another property this week. We’re on our second buyers now. The market suddenly stopped about two weeks after we sold and put in an offer!

Like a PP, we’d like to move but don’t need to do if things fall apart again we may stop, do a bit of work to this house, and try again next year.

Depends where you are in some areas people are offering well over the asking price good luck 🤞

Foxhasbigsocks · 04/07/2021 23:03

Nothing much on here

ballsdeep · 04/07/2021 23:06

We've recently moved after an horrendous house buying experience and reading this thread makes me sick with anxiety even though I've moved into my forever home 😂

Things are definitely drying up here and have been for the last month or so. When I didn't know if I was.going to move into my home now I was constantly on Rightmove. A few months ago houses were popping up left right and centre. Now there are one of two a week and they are ridiculously over priced.

mayblossominapril · 04/07/2021 23:18

It’s all eased off where I am. I sold before the end of the stamp duty holiday, there was nothing to buy and houses were going for much more than he asking price. Now there’s still a few coming on the market but there’s not loads of people fighting over them. Hopefully I’ll find something now.

MeadowHay · 04/07/2021 23:20

Yes we've been looking to buy (FTBs) for the last few months, but have quite specific criteria especially location-wise, and theres definitely been a lot less new ones added over the last month or so even compared to a couple of months ago. I don't think we will manage it now as my earnings will plummet in a few months with mat leave which I guess will mean we won't be able to get the size of mortgage we would need then anyway which is disappointing. However we are renting from family at a lot less than market rates and happy here so it's not the end of the world. Just I'm going to be retraining after mat leave too so it will put our home ownership plans back by quite a few years now which is annoying especially the way prices have been rising here.

Thanks for replies, just what I feared.

Ours went on the market beginning of march and sold right away. But no 4 beds were coming onto the market which is what we were wanting to move into. Some three beds though but not lots. We went for a new build just so we had an onward purchase and not to lose our buyer.

7 weeks in and our buyer pulled out. Remarketed and sold within a week. Finally moving on Thursday.

Redwhiteandnotblue · 06/07/2021 10:27

Really not sure what happening in the house market.
I'm looking in a 30 mile radius (rural)
See my thread lower down, got a buyer but no onward purchase.
Yes I do have requirements like most people but not overly fussy, I need two bedrooms no housing estate (nothing snobby just I've aways lived rural, not ready for a wardon control flat also have pets)
Not financially sensible to rent, I'm mortgage free so that would eat into my budget.
If I went into rent last year, would of probably spent 8k already with another 8k into the next twelve months if nothing comes available.

FelicityElectricity · 06/07/2021 13:24

We sold our house in April and found our onward purchase six weeks later. We're waiting for our vendors to find a property. It has been nearly 8 weeks so far and our buyer wants to move before September which is perfectly reasonable but our chain isn't even complete yet 😩

Starseeking · 06/07/2021 16:25

There seems to be a few more coming on now, although still not 100% what I'm looking for.

I'm going to view a house this week on which I only have to compromise on one aspect; the garage is behind the house rather than to the side, which means no future two storey extension.

Price is a bit toppy, and I definitely don't want to pay asking, but will evaluate how much wriggle room there is once viewed.

PumpkinWitch · 06/07/2021 17:04

I am looking to buy after a divorce that is taking too long. I have had 3 viewings cancelled in a week but finally got to view somewhere last night. It had been on the market for a year.

You are not alone. I hope things get better soon and I can get my house.
