Bidet shower for loo

Hello, about to have a new bathroom put on and think one of these would be a useful addition - a ‘bum gun’ or handheld shower spray

I’ve never lived in a home which has one - how can I pick one? Are the ones that take the chill off complicated to install? Will it add a lot to price of the bathroom work, and are there any specific things I need to know?

Thanks in advance

I had one installed and it just kept on leaking, would you consider a Japanese toilet that has the bidet in the toilet seat, I can't wait to get one, have used them on holiday and quite a few relatives houses.

@noenergy: thanks, yes, also an option I’d consider. I’m refitting a bathroom so keeping plumbing for loo in same place, I don’t know if it’s a big jib to install one of these instead of a normal loo. I guess they need electricity?

We have one but it's for cloth nappies and ice cold, I wouldn't point it at skin! It was just added to the toilets water inlet so not a big deal at all, retrofitted actually

Following as would like one fitted in downstairs loo.

I've got one.
A self fit with a thermo valve, so it needs both hot and cold feeds.
Mine is fed from the wash basin and the shower head (gun) sits on the cistern.
I am EVANGELICAL about it, especially if you have bowel issues or menstrual problems.
Get one.
Get one of you are having a new bathroom, get one of you aren't.
You won't regret it, guaranteed.
And that's without all the other stuff apart from your arse you can wash with it Grin

@TheQueef: thank you. So you installed it yourself?

The opportunity to be much cleaner is very appealing . Is the feed from wash basin visible over your wall /tiles?

Mine is plumbed in under the sink (speedfit plastic fittings) and only the variable temperature knob and shower hose/head is outside the cabinet.
Our bathroom has the sink and loo side by side so it's quite neat and tidy.
If you are OK at diy I would say go for it, even better if a plumber is coming in anyway.
Honestly I can't believe I managed without it.
Just this week I've washed my feet three times with it (grubby sandal hoofs) I even do my hair with it so the plug hole stays clean Grin

You can get a valve that turns out off while not in use so the trigger isnt under pressure 24/7.
