Where should I live in Hertfordshire?

Hello wise people. Husband and I are planning on moving to Hertfordshire with a little baby.
Looking for period properties with decent links to London and decent schools nearby....I know...it's a big ask!

Any recommendations?
We are thinking Boxmoor/Bushey/Watford?

Unfortunately we are priced out of our faves - Berkhamsted/St Albans / Radlett.
Budget of £750ish

Will have another look at St Albans and have earmarked Bushey/Watford too

@foodislife1 - whenever I've been to St Albans (friends lived/live there) I liked it a lot - on the outskirts you get some nice houses, town centre is nice. Trains seem good too.

An ex of mine lived in Harpenden - can't recall much about it but was good for commuting.

Yes I under one has to sign up for the 11+ and that's fine but even that is limited to certain areas to qualify if exam passed I believe. So it's the areas one can live and get in if passed the 11+ exam I'm wondering about.
