Im about to replace our kitchen. I keep looking at light blue cabinets like this. Would i regret it and should I stick to something more standard?
I really like this sort of thing but know its not to everyone's taste.

We stayed I a holiday cottage at Easter that had a pale blue gloss kitchen with navy accessories and I loved it
We plan to do ours this year and that what I want

The worktops were a dark grey granite with blue sparkly bits in

I really wanted a light blue shaker kitchen like that until I realised that almost every picture I'd seen of light blue kitchens had plain white/cream painted walls (I guess because most other colours would look too much with it?).

I worried I'd get bored of the look (I'm hoping my kitchen will last a good decade or two) so decided to go for white shaker instead. That way I can paint the walls that light blue colour if I want - and more easily repaint them if/when my tastes change over time (and so quickly change the "feel" of the kitchen.)

The other two bonuses of white instead of blue cabinets: matching interiors (I think having a different colour inside the cupboards would annoy me) and of course hopefully neutral/classic enough in case I do come to sell earlier than planned in the future.

But if none of those worries/concerns apply to you, I say go for it - I think light blue shaker is so pretty Smile.

Oh btw I have white surfaces too - if you go for patterned (speckled as I did or perhaps heavily veined) on white, I don't think it shows marks any more than on deeper colours as they are more easily disguised. I think I'd be nervous about any plain, light coloured surface though as I'm quite clumsy!

FWIW my Dad had his kitchen pale blue in 2004, it's a Poggenpol one. IMO it just looks fresh, light (faces south west) classy and timeless, and suits the property. It doesn't seem to have dated at all. He has a light worktop, with speckled and sparkly bits in.

Our last kitchen was duck egg blue shaker. We had it for nine years and although it wasn’t my choice (previous owners put it in), it was very easy to live with, didn’t show the dirt and even when the paint had chipped with age it wasn’t noticeable unless you knew it was there. Very practical.

I love blue kitchens. Go for it. Blue trumps white.
