People who don't turn up to viewings...

are so rude!

I am having a stressful time after my buyer dropped out (found a house we want to move to). He messed us about for a couple of weeks so now we have to go back on the market.

Out of about 5 confirmed viewings, 2 have not shown up. They haven't cancelled or contacted me to let me know they're not coming. They have my phone number.

The one who hasn't showed up today only booked yesterday! Why would someone do that?!!

I feel soul destroyed by the whole process!

We are in exactly the same situation, our buyer messed us around for a hideous few weeks and then dropped out. So we are back to square one and desperately hoping that we won’t lose the house we hope to buy.

I have found that house buying seems to bring out the absolute worst in people. The rudeness in not turning up for viewings is awful - it takes seconds to make a call or send an email. And anyone who has ever sold a house knows how much effort it takes to get a house ‘viewing ready’.

The who process is just hideous. If we hadn’t found somewhere to move into, I would just take it off the market for a while tbh.

No advice, just lots sympathy!

Same here. We reduced our price so that we can find a proceedable buyer quickly too!

I am currently sitting here feeling exactly the same as my ONLY viewing hasn’t happened. Supposed to be here at 11.15 specifically as they are very limited on time apparently yet haven’t bothered to show Angry

Clutching at straws, but could they be going to the wrong address? The agent showing our house waited 15 minutes outside a house of the same number but in the next road, and was annoyed with us when they finally realised!

Newhousehope · 02/07/2021 12:25

I did this once. I genuinely forgot. We had a booking for Thursday. Offered on a different house on the Tuesday and it went out my mind. Remembered 2 hours after and that was only because DH thought it was at 5:30… it was at 3!!

Some people don’t see it as an inconvenience though. Which is rude!

I've done this before when going to an area I didn't know. Turns out I was on say Green Close instead of Green Avenue which was the next street along!

But otherwise yes it's really rude, it takes 2 seconds to just ring or text and say sorry won't be coming.

We had one viewer that didn’t turn up. She booked another appointment a week later and made an offer on the property two hours after viewing it.
We didn’t know if she was going to complete the sale. In the end we exchanged contracts 48 hours before exchange.

If they have your contact details it is incredibly rude.
We’ve purchased (and sold) recently and had a viewing we didn’t attend because we had seen houses we preferred earlier that day. Problem was it was the vendor showing us round, we had no contact details for them and it was a Sunday so the EA was closed. We sent a v apologetic email via the EA and we did consider going to the viewing but it felt disingenuous when we had 0 intention of buying it and it would have taken us well over an hour with travel. We were also aware they had multiple viewings that day (they could only do that particular Sunday) so didn’t feel TOO bad that they’d got the house ready as it wasn’t just for us - luckily it went SSTC on the following Monday or Tuesday. Was still really awkward though.

Guess the lesson is to have contact details of viewers so you can ring them to confirm appointment. Or get estate agent to do all viewings and they can deal with it.

Tootytata · 02/07/2021 13:48

Luckily second viewer showed up so we didn't tidy for nothing!

Hopefully we will get an offer soon and not have to deal with viewings anymore!

Really want to keep my house purchase alive too. Come on, someone make me a good offer! Grin

Not turning up for viewings and no phone call or message. When you have got up early and got the house ready, it’s hard work. Estate Agents need to charge a fee for time wasters ----

I had a no show two weeks ago, after I'd spent a good two hours cleaning and tidying, also weeding the garden in preperation.
It's so rude. Luckily I've had three other viewings who all showed, but I ask the estate agent to now confirm with all viewers the night before.
I'm also viewing and have looked at several, all with different agents.
I was impressed with one agent who txt a confirmation once I'd arranged a viewing, then also txt me on the morning and asked for a yes it no reply that I was still attending.
then the next day a little short questionnaire about how i found the property and any feedback.
All the houses i'm looking at are around 200k so I was just quite impressed.
