What’s it like? Would you recommend?

The most boring small minded place on earth.

IndiaMay · 02/07/2021 16:34

Shit hole (went to uni there)

ChateauMargaux · 02/07/2021 16:55

I also went to Uni there.. I would love to know what it's like now...

Ozanj · 02/07/2021 16:55

Are you going to work there? If so consider moving north. You can get to Uxbridge from most towns along the southern end of the A40 within an hour but have a far better quality of life.

Bubbles0000 · 02/07/2021 17:15

@Ozanj yes would be moving for work (just outside Uxbridge) but I do not drive so I would need to be able to access the area by public transport. I have quite a small budget as a first time buyer but I saw a few flats in the area I could afford. Sounds like I’d be best to avoid and look further out!

Try Ickenham which is close on tube to Uxbridge, or Harefield, Denham etc

OrcharD14 · 03/07/2021 13:11

Ruislip is great! Close to countryside with easy access to Central London. It’s less than 10 mins. by tube to Uxbridge. Local buses are also plentiful & inexpensive.
What’s your budget & what are you looking for?
I also agree with pp re Ickenham. North Hillingdon, just south of the A40 is also lovely.
I know these areas well & am happy to answer any questions.
@IndiaMay I wouldn’t describe Uxbridge as a ‘shit hole’. The shopping centre might not be the best, but there’s no shortage of people wanting to live there - the vast St Andrew’s Park development on the old RAF site & all the latest developments of flats in the town centre sell quickly. North Uxbridge, by the Common is lovely - I have some friends who live there.

@OrcharD14 thank you so much for the advice, my budget is £325k and I’m looking for a two bed flat (or anything bigger that I could get but I doubt there’s much) I’ll take a look in these areas Smile

DS lives in a 1bed rental flat in North Ruislip, near the golf course and Lido. I think it's a really nice area and he loves it. It feels very close to the countryside and very safe.

His flat would be about £300k to buy and most 2 beds there probably go for a bit more than your budget. Where he is is a bit of a walk to the high street and tube but buses are plentiful.

DespairingHomeowner · 05/07/2021 09:51

@Bubbles0000: seconding Ruislip. Also try Harefield, its not on tube so a bit cheaper, but 15 mins on bus to Uxbridge

Ruislip Manor/Ruislip Gardens/South Ruislip (nr Northolt) are all a bit cheaper vs Ickenham/Ruislip - but not as nice (still fine though)

As Uxbridge is end of tube line, I'd be looking into bus routes from slightly further out that would get you to work to max out your budget

I think the older part of Uxbridge also looks nice. 325 is not a very high budget for a 2 bed flat in London so I think you may need to look around/compromise a bit

incywincyspiders · 05/07/2021 09:56

Thirding Ruislip! I lived in both Ruislip and Uxbridge, Uxbridge was horrendous to live in but Ruislip was lovely. I would recommend Ruislip or Ruislip Manor. Ickenham and Eastcote are okay too. No to West Ruislip.

If you drove I'd also recommend Pinner. But tubes would be frustrating so definitely Ruislip is the best option

incywincyspiders · 05/07/2021 09:57

Oh and no to Ruislip Gardens/South Ruislip.
