What have you treated yours with when it was installed - I don't want a shiny look or for it to darken too much.

What product (if any) do you recommend for daily wiping down?

Friends used a Matt yacht varnish on theirs.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/07/2021 16:36

Danish oil and I wipe down with dish soap and warm water/ wrung out cloth

WithLargeTableMouse · 01/07/2021 16:38

God I wish I’d thought to use yatch varnish, mine has got black and horrible round the tap despite my best efforts to keep it dry Sad

FurierTransform · 01/07/2021 17:21

I've used danish oil & Osmo poly-x matt on two separate worktops. The Osmo is wayyyy better.

bilbodog · 01/07/2021 17:33

Osmo oil

DinoDanni · 01/07/2021 19:10

We use danish oil too. We inherited our wood worktops when we bought our house 3 years ago. They’re so impractical and never feel 100% clean. I’m also forever wiping/drying water splashes from around the taps and sink. The wood is slightly marked by water. We’re changing the worktops to quartz in October, thank goodness!

DinoDanni · 01/07/2021 19:10

I use a Method spray multiple times a day, but as mentioned they never feel clean like a stone worktop

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 01/07/2021 20:53

We've used Osmo on ours. It's the best finish we've ever had on a wooden worktop.

I really like having wooden worktops, because I'm a clumsy cow and they're more forgiving than granite.

mommybear1 · 01/07/2021 21:12

Danish Oil on ours you have to ensure you sandpaper it first to ensure a smooth finish. Day to day Fairy or Method kitchen to wipe down.

QueenStromba · 02/07/2021 06:50

If you haven't had them installed yet then don't is my advice.

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 02/07/2021 06:57

Osmo oil. Wouldn’t use anything else.

chipshopElvis · 02/07/2021 23:46

Osomo oil, its been great so far.

Nannyamc · 02/07/2021 23:50

Osomo oil. Clean with pledge soap. 15 yrs still perfect

Bluesheep8 · 03/07/2021 07:09

If you haven't had them installed yet then don't is my advice.

I agree, unless you're happy to keep up with the maintenance.
Probably controversial but I decided on wood effect laminate for this very reason. There are some really good laminates around, I'm really happy with mine.

saleorbouy · 03/07/2021 08:13

Ronseal kitchen worktop oil. Put it in a spray bottle and wipe on with a sponge. I treated the worktops every day for the first week as they had not treatment, after that once every 3wks. Very easy, clear work tops, spray, wipe and go to bed.
Pay attention to the area around the sink ( especially if fitted under and end grain exposed) and dishwasher where the steam contacts the conter underside when the door opens.
I used detol anti bac spray to wipe down.

YesClemFandango · 03/07/2021 08:41

Timbertec, amazing stuff. Waterproofs the wood so no marking. I can leave a damp cloth sitting on the wood all night, no damage. It's used to make Japanese wooden baths so 100% works. I wish we'd used it on the floor as well, but I will if we ever get round to sanding back and retreating.

YesClemFandango · 03/07/2021 08:45

Agh autocorrect! Timbertect. From conservation chemicals I think.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 03/07/2021 08:47

@YesClemFandango that sounds like good stuff. We have wooden floorboards which need some love.

NotMeNoNo · 03/07/2021 09:06

Osmo oil is a hardwax oil, much more waterproof than Danish oil or other cheap ones. You don't often hear complaints from people who have used it.

Then just wipe down with a cloth or normal antibacterial spray. Natural wood is antibacterial so you don't need to be bleaching it all the time

Baystard · 03/07/2021 09:09

I got wood effect laminate having had real wood in the past. Every time I clean them , or set something on them, or DH splashes water round the sink and doesn't wipe it up I am grateful for laminate!
