Storage heaters to oil radiators?

The main storage heater has broken and needs replacing and it's proving a pita to get replaced - maybe because this is because the trades are so busy a little job isn't worth it? One electrician said it would be better to take them out, switch from economy 7 to standard rate and put oil filled radiators in (no gas so limited options). I don't know if this is right or because it would be easier to do for him. A call to the electric co was spectacularly unhelpful and I can't seem to find anything relevant on line so am turning to the hive mind in hope!

We considered putting electric radiators into a property we were interested in buying.
Apparently they are pretty much plugged into the wall. We looked at a German brand.
Had never heard of them before

Oil will be expensive to install. But cheaper to run. And it’ll mean floors up and all sorts.

Also remember that with oil you have to budget a large chunk to fill the tank every so often and the more you buy the cheaper the oil is

There are lots of electric options now, oil filled rads, convection panel, infra red panels etc. Plenty now are wi fi controllable with time and thermostat temperature controls to save energy.
Removing night storage heating will mean no cheap overnight tariff but heaters on normal daily tariff will allow heating control for when you want it. My experience of storage heaters is that they belt out heat during the day while you're at work but additional heat is required in the evening.
I got used this company which have a pretty good selection. We had a fault with one and it was replaced next day delivery.
Most heaters just plug in to a mains socket, this will depend on the power rating (kW)

Thanks. It was sealed oil units so no need to top them up. I can't find out anywhere if econ 7 woukd be cheaper than these on standard rate. Apart from the storage heaters, everything else is used in the day and as pp said the storage heaters often need topping up in the day anyway. I can't even find out if I can switch back to econ 7 if the oil rads don't work out cheaper. I need to decide before the decorators come Confused

I can't see that oil filled electric rads would be cheaper to run than storage heaters on e7. (I'm on e7 with nsh)

You'll be using the same amount of electric to make them hot, but it'll be costing you more per unit because you won't have the night time discount!

Have a look at dimplex quantum storage heaters. They're brilliantly insulated so they don't lose heat during the day like the old style ones, you can program them so they let the heat out automatically at a preset time so no remembering to turn the dials to open or close them (I always forget to close ours in the evening so we're sweltering overnight Hmm)

And the electrician will need to run an on peak cable to them too, but they have an inbuilt fan heater so if you do run out of stored heat you can use your peak electric for extra heat.

They're not cheap, but I think they're definitely worth it, I'm currently saving to replace all our old nsh with quantums.

Oh, and don't get scammed by fischer - they put flyers through our door every so often, but I googled them because it sounded so good - all sorts of horror stories!

What is your home insulation like, could you improve this? Loft insulation to a depth of 25cm makes a huge difference to your heat loss and is relatively cheap.

Loft is well insulated yes. Interesting point 're new storage heaters. I think because I use other things during the day like cooker, tv, computer etc the only thing that's used during the night us the storage heaters and washing machine
