DeVOL kitchen - is it worth it?

I've been asking about kitchens on this board and receiving lots of good advice. I had in mind we'd get a mid-range kitchen from Howden's or equivalent, but now that I've looked at deVOL I am very tempted.

Can anyone talk to me about deVOL? Are they worth the price? I like their real shaker and classic English, and I think we will be getting a 8-unit kitchen plus island.

Or would you recommend another company that's a level up from Howden's/Wren?

Thank you!

Helmsley range sounds good. It's just tricky seeing DIY kitchens in real life before buying!

I have seen a friend's kitchen with the DIY Helmsley and it was really impressive, it's what made me think about it again! My friend is really happy with it.

@Zinnia happy to post pics! We went to choose worktops this morning. I think we are going to go with Carrara marble, despite all its issues - it’s just so much more beautiful than the engineered stuff. I do find it mildly amusing that we’ll have luxury high end worktops sitting on cheap IKEA cabinets!

That Norwegian company looks good, and remarkably similar to Custom Fronts.

Anecdotally, I think you may not be alone in putting fabulous solid marble on bargain high street carcasses! It will be stunning, no doubt. Yes please to pics when it's all done

We got a recommendation from a MN thread for this company:

It’s been a wonderful process. Real craftsmanship but without the overheads of having showrooms and magazine ads

We adore DeVol and have an excellent joiner who can basically do anything, so we'll do DeVol style but built by him. We will probably use some of their handles.

Neptune is similar to deVOL. They even sued deVOL for allegedly copying one of their kitchen designs!

Try a local independent handmade kitchen company. My mum runs out, really high end stuff and along the lines of DeVol for pricing but more like Tom Howley for end result. If you have DeVol money to spend, shop around and check out smaller places who often give fantastic attention to detail and craftsmanship.

I have done this and ordered through a local company, solid wood but a fraction of DeVol, which I just couldn't afford sadly but adore the look. Still ordered the brass cup handles through DeVol and am going for a butler sink with Perrin & Rowe taps so hoping it'll look similar. The 20 week lead time though has been a pain in the ass. It's being fitted end of July so hoping it'll turn out well 🙏🏻

Thanks all.

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango did your local company agree to copy the look of deVOL then? That sounds ideal really - shop local, but get the high end look.

Looked at deVOL. Wasn’t well fitted even in the shop which massively put us off for the price. We got British standard and it’s just great.

minipie · 30/06/2021 14:36

Honestly I think most of the Devol look is in the styling - the handles, lights, choice of tiles for splashback etc. And colour choices. The actual cabinets are nothing particularly out of the ordinary. So I’d go for a more budget friendly cabinet company and then splash on the fittings.

DIY will send you cabinet door samples for a small charge.

No the company do that style anyway with any F&B colour or unpainted. I love the mushroom colour so going for drop cloth with silestone Carrara. I do think with the likes of DeVol you're paying a premium for the fancy showroom & marketing - I just can't afford it though!
