How much did you pay for a wood burning stove?

Just that really. Looking to get one installed but have no idea what to expect or how much is reasonable.

You'll definitely be able to get one for £2-£3k. Ours was about £1800 I think including opening up the fireplace which had been bricked up. We went for a gas one tbh. It's not our main source of heat. Only gets used when very cold in winter. I didn't want a real wood burner because I can't be dealing with the mess!

The evidence for use of wood burning stove IS very mixed. The most comprehensive survey based in Sheffield failed to conclude that they were dangerous when used correctly.
I wonder how many naysayers drive cars that use diesel or petrol, cook on a barbecue, have a gas boiler? The overwhelming majority of energy sources are harmful in some way or another.

OP, we paid about £3k to have our gas fire removed, the chimney lined and stack repointed, fire fitted, oak beam installed and hearth laid. It took 2 days and all we had to do afterwards was paint the wall where it had been replastered.
We never use anything but seasoned wood, have it swept annually and never burn rubbish on it.

I had to stop using ours as our youngest has asthma and despite using dry sources and it being sealed really well it caused her asthma to flare.
I did love it but having read up more the particulates are thought to be carcinogenic so not worth the risk and having had a quick Google scholar Google there is also links with dementia. Even the really good ones let in some smoke.

If you don’t have a free supply of fuel and are only going to use it occasionally I would look at the everhot electric stove. It’s a storedheat stove not a fan one. You will bypass all the chimney and building regs issue, at most you will need a new hearth to make it look nice and a new socket.
I have a country kiln wood burner, they are brilliant. It is used constantly apart from in summer but I get free chopped wood

I’ll stick to the original question ,🙂. Here a picture of the clearview we had in the old house , think it was about £1600 and it as installed when we had the whole chimney rebuilt. All in it was about 3k the stone hearth it’s on was 40 pound from a reclaimed yard.

It’s 5kw stove and the basket at the side would last about 12 hours if we had it on all day at the weekend.

Oh it’s a multi fuel as well so you can use the smokeless fuel on it too 👍

@Soontobe60 What type of tradesperson did you call to remove the gas fireplace? Did the stove fitting company do this or did you have to find someone yourself?

We went to a fireplace company who did the whole job from start to finish.

This was the company. We got quotes from other similar companies. All of them do the whole job as a package.

Hi,

We are looking to fit a woodburning stove. Can anybody recommend one please in the under 5kw range.

How long have you had it, and does it have any glitches or little minor problems you were unaware of when looking at it in the showroom.

Thanks.

@MrsMouse03

We had one put on last autumn - it was around £4K all told with new hearth, fire surround, log burner. We love it 😍
I have one that looks just like this one but an electric one from dimpex approx £600.

£1850 including new stone made to measure fireplace (big) flue and fitting. It's not one of the fancy makes though but looks good and does the job perfectly. I went to a fireplace shop that mainly did the surrounds (in house stone mason) and the wood burner was an extra rather than a fancy wood burner shop.

We prepped the hole though.
