Slabbing over garden slabs?

JamMakingWannaBe · 24/06/2021 21:13

We have a path of bog standard 60cm square slabs running at the side of the garden.

We are having a new patio laid in what is currently a corner of our lawn and the builder suggested also doing the path to match.

He is not going to lift the existing slabs but has said he will just lay the new slabs on top.

Is this usual?

It used to be in bathrooms and I had to remove three layers of wall tiles once!

We also have miner bees under in the slabs. Are they protected and will the young be able to "hatch" next year?

If the Slabs are still solid and not wobbly it’s fine to pace over. Can’t advise on the bees though

Not normal and surely it will raise the level of your patio compared to the surrounding area?

It's not normal, he's doing it to save himself time from removing it. But like someone else said if the slabs aren't wobbly, it should be fine to lay on top

Bees! Not protected, exactly, but here's what you should do ...

It will make a good solid base for new path he's not doing it for ease it makes sense.
Just make sure your happy with what height it will end up.

The alternative had smashes the old path up skipped to landfill and then your put rubble down for new base waste of time and money

Sounds a bit of a quick fix. What implications does it throw up? Will the raised patio jam up and outward opening doors from the house? Will run off rainwater then go into house under doors?

Could it be that they know about the bodies under the original patio ???

( maybe not the last one!)

It might make your path higher than the damp proof course on your house if it is next to it.
