I m thinking to relocate near Hayes and Hillingdon. Is it a nice safe area?

What you mean by nice safe?

There are good transport links into central London, buses along Uxbridge Road you can get to Heathrow, Hounslow, Southall, Ealing, Shepherds Bus, White City etc.

Shopping pavilion in Uxbridge, Uxbridge college has two bases one is Hayes. Lots of Schools. Brunel Uni is accessible which not far from Hillingdon Hospital.

There is only one area that I’d say definite no to and that is Willow Tree Lane Estate in Hayes. There is lots of reasons why people trying to sell their houses and none of them good.

Is there crime yes but where isn’t there. If you moving from rural location is it culture shock yes but same if was vice versa.

Location wise is great as everything accessible.

pantjog · 24/06/2021 23:54

Traffic is often very heavy in the area because (I disagree with PP) public transport isn’t great. No tube, just overground. Uxbridge town centre is quite good. I don’t like Hayes town centre myself, find it a bit depressing. (I was there last Friday. A bloke came into Smiths and nicked a whole shelf of chocolate. I told the assistant who went after him. He was still at the bus stop but she let him go because she was fearful of violence.)

Bus into Uxbridge, Northolt or Ealing u get tube in London, Hayes & Harlington is overground train takes 23mins to get Paddington.

You right about roads busy but agree to disagree about bus service if compared to over priced limited bus service where I am.

Hayes Town like all of Hayes it’s changed from when I grew up there. But same could be said where live now, we don’t have local shoplifters they come from other areas to target our small towns.

PaniniHead · 25/06/2021 00:31

Oh god no- don’t touch Hayes with a barge pole. Rubbish high street, high crime rates, schools aren’t great

Shorthairlady · 25/06/2021 03:09

It's a veritable shithole. Avoid. Always having to wade through traffic to get anywhere, rubbish high street, I could go on. Only saving grace is the Costco and Matalan.

Shorthairlady · 25/06/2021 03:18

Also avoid because of the absolutely ridiculous traffic management system at the junction of Botwell Lane/Station Road. If you know, you'll know.

hangsangwitch · 25/06/2021 11:13

I was born and raised in Hayes, off Lansbury Drive. It was lovely then, but I wouldn't live there now for a million quid. Hayes town is revolting and dangerous now. There are some nice parts of Hayes, but it is a town that has been allowed to die. Avoid.
Makes me really sad to say this.

NotNowPlzz · 25/06/2021 11:18

I love Hayes local area but the high street is shocking. There are some local wannabe thugs but I think you'd get that in most places nearby. Good community feel in some areas.

Hangingwitch

I left not long after woolies in hayes town closed, still go back to visit family albeit not for awhile now, not until once you moved away and not been back for while you realise how much it changed.

Unbelievable that after all protests and ruining business they went back to being able to drive through hayes town

FluffyBlankie · 25/06/2021 18:12

Born there. Parent still there, sibling near Kingshill. Moved about a bit, West Drayton, Hayes, Ruislip, Ickenham.
Nestles gone - flats going up? Remember the coffee smell!
Hayes station is covered in flats too!

We wouldn’t ever go back, hated moving away but got over it!

anon12345678901 · 25/06/2021 18:14

Definitely don't go to Hayes. Ruislip, Eastcote, Ickenham, Pinner, all good with good transport links. Traffic can get congested around certain times. It's got crime, but I think most areas do.

OrcharD14 · 03/07/2021 13:34

The aforementioned towns are all much nicer, but inevitably more expensive. Obviously it depends on your budget & what you want for it. Also are you driving or using public transport?
I know these areas well & am happy to answer any questions.
Re Hayes, there’s a massive amount of property development near the station, in anticipation of the arrival of the the much delayed Crossrail.
I agree with previous posters about the town centre - no decent shops & certainly no ‘café culture’. However, Ealing, where you’ll find a wide range of eateries, is about 10 mins. by train. The shopping options in Ealing aren’t great now, due to the ‘Westfield effect.’ You can get to Westfield, from Ealing in about 10 mins. by tube.

BrownEyedSquirrel · 03/07/2021 13:37

Stay away from Hayes! It's affordable for a reason. I never feel safe walking around there. Lots of nicer places nearby such as Icekenham, Hillingdon and Ruislip

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 03/07/2021 13:40

Worked there for 4 years. It’s better than Neasden/ Harlesden. So basically not a complete shithole but you know…

'It's not Neasden' There's damming praise for you. Grin
Babdoc · 03/07/2021 14:15

I grew up in Hayes, and have no desire to go back. When you see the estate agents’ only plus point is the “good transport links”, that translates as “a shit hole, but easy to get out of quickly”!
hangsangwitch, I was two streets away from you, in the mid 50’s to mid 70’s. When were you there - did we overlap?

OrcharD14 · 03/07/2021 14:15

@BrownEyedSquirrel I agree about the town centre being unpleasant & feeling unsafe, but away from the Coldharbour Lane area, it’s quite pleasant eg. near Barra Hall Park or north of the Uxbridge Road. Downside is it’s a bus or car journey to the station, should you need to commute. Harlington , south of Hayes, close to Heathrow, but easily accessible to the station, might be a good option- couple of nice pubs too!

I have some friends & family in the area, who’d love to move to the areas you mention, but their budgets don’t stretch to it,so they’ve had to compromise, buying in the better parts of a less desirable area.

Moved Out Of Yeading Last Year After Living There 58yrs, Absolute Shithole Now. Flytipping Everywhere, Crackheads, Plastic Gangsters, Drug Dealers & Not The English Area I Grew Up In. Complete Dump Now, Probably Obe Of The Worse Places In West London.

So many happy memories of Hayes but agree it’s a scary place now. My family used to live there and I used to spend my whole summer holidays as a child staying with them. I’ve been trying to remember a park that my grandad used to take me to that had Guinea pigs and bunnies and… peacocks I think? Can’t for the life of me remember what it was called. I’d love to find it… anyone on here know?
