Anyone live in Lenzie or Lennoxtown? Advice Needed!

Hello! We’re looking to move house and aren’t overly familiar with the two areas mentioned in the thread title.

Does anyone who lives in these areas have advice on practicalities of living there? Is it easy to get to Glasgow on public transport? What is it like for young children? Are there any areas we should avoid? Are there plenty of amenities - shops, cafes etc? I’ve only driven through a few times so don’t know much beyond what I can see from the car

I would go with Lenzie over lennoxtown. Much easier for public transport and no need to drive through country roads every time you want to go for a food shop! Lenzie has a train station and better bus access.

It’s 10 minutes from Lenzie to the centre of Glasgow on the train - it runs every half an hour. It’s 45 mins to get to Edinburgh. Schools are reasonably good. Supermarket provision is fine . Cafes are not great but there are some .
Lennox town is further out. Property is cheaper but there’s a reason for that. Fewer amenities and I don’t know about schools. I wouldn’t choose to love there

Live not love

Thanks for the comments.

Are there any parts of Lenzie we should steer clear of? I know it has a good reputation generally but have read online about drug related trouble on the moss

It depends on what your budget is? Lenzie is a nice area and house prices reflect that. Lennoxtown is not as affluent and again prices reflect that. You’ll be fine in the majority of Lenzie but as with most places there are bits you’d choose not to live in if you could afford more. The Woodilee area is nice but houses are expensive and at present some are going £100K over asking (already £300,000 - £550,000 ish). The train is quick but so are the express buses. Schools are good but check catchment areas, especially in Woodilee area. Schools are very busy though and don’t think many placing requests are able to be accepted.
There are some lovely houses in Lennoxtown but the village centre is the main road through and is takeaways, pubs, hairdressers and the Co-op. The Catholic primary school is good (current knowledge) and the catchment Catholic high school in Kirkintilloch is very good too. Lennoxtown Primary now feeds into Lenzie Academy! Travel into Glasgow from Lennoxtown is an express bus every 30 minutes (takes about 40/50 minutes depending on time of day).
Have you looked at Kirkintilloch or Milton of Campsie (currently no houses for sale in MoC though).

Is there a particular reason you’re focussed on those two areas? It doesn’t sound like you know them well / have local connections / need to be near family. There are plenty of affordable places with good connections into Glasgow on public transport which I’d say are much nicer than both Lenzie and Lennoxtown with better facilities.

We’re currently in Bearsden and are being priced out of the market. We want to stay close to the trossachs but not far from public transport. Good schools are also key, hence looking at Lenzie catchment. There’s little coming on the market in our budget in Strathblane/Killearn

Avoid Lennoxtown. Some parts look lovely with great views of the Campsies but it's full of "interesting people." Yes there are normal people too, I know quite a few, but it has more than its fair share of drug dealers/"gangsters"/anti social people.

Parts of Kirkintilloch fall under Lenzie Academy catchment though you'll have to check the post code of course, but my family's home in /Westermains/Adamslie area is. I'd recommend that part of Kirkintilloch if you consider it. There's only one main bus in that part(since they cut services) but you're close to the town centre where you can get more. It's close to the retail park in Bishopbriggs which is a bonus so not far from an M&S. No train station in Kirkintilloch unfortunately but there are more shops and cafes than in Lenzie though like all high streets it's suffered over the past several years.

I grew up in Lenzje! Boring as hell back in the day but much improved with better transport links. Lovely walks and green spaces. Naice, but still a bit dull for teens. Lennoxtown's a bit rough.

EverydayPuffling · 24/06/2021 11:12

Thanks everyone, I wasn’t sure how to ask for advice without sounding snobby. Didn’t want to judge Lennoxtown based on appearance.

Isn’t almost everywhere dull for a teenager? Smile I grew up in rural Northern Ireland so know all about it

Would avoid Lennoxtown but consider Milton of Campsie or Kirkintilloch itself as well as Lenzie. Cadder in Bishopbriggs might be worth looking at too (north part of Bishopbriggs is more rural but still relatively convenient).

Can walk/bike to Lenzie station from Kirkintilloch or Milton of Campsie.

Have you seen the latest league tables, St Ninian’s is not ‘very good’, it’s reasonable but certainly a rung off top tier
Lennoxtownis · 09/02/2023 22:41

I'm sorry but do not go to lennoxtown it is a dangerous place drugs, antisocial people and I would not feel safe I NEED TO CARRY A small knife in lennoxtown incase I get jumped there are rapists, and a lot of drug dealers in Lennoxtown

Lennoxtownis · 09/02/2023 22:41

Lennoxtown is rough

SharpBeaker · 15/07/2025 16:54

Hi, sorry to post about this. The information that I said was wrong was young and stupid, and thought it was cool to live or used to live in a dodgy place. Lennoxtown isn't all that bad; there are some amazing people in it. Sorry to have posted something so stupid. I know that this post was very late, but I hope that if you did move, it was nice. Sorry again, it was such a stupid and irresponsible thing to post the things I said were wrong
