I'm new to this - how do you find a broker? We've got some unusual circumstances but need to move and are thinking of buying, just not sure where to start! Any help appreciated

We used an absolutely brilliant one. Robert may financial services. He's based in Bournville Birmingham but I believe he can do it all over zoom.

Worth his weight in gold and kept our purchase from falling apart by acting as a go between. Didn't pay him anything, he claims his fee from the bank you go with. Excellent

Ask around I found a local one via word of mouth and have used him several times as have my parents.
Can you ask on Facebook? Also local estate agents often have one (no harm in seeing more than one to get a feeling).

I asked for recommendation from friends and family and final went with Mark at Wesleyans. Absolutely fantastic, never pushy, went extra miles for you and free (he got commission from lenders) Smile He's based in Essex though.

The EAs will recommend brokers to you as well (Nowadays they even force you to talk with their brokers on the ground that they need to "verify" you. What a dodgy practice.) Most of these brokers are rubbish, but occasionally I have met good ones who are helpful and know what they are doing, so worth a try.

We used L&C mortage brokers.

I was a bit dubious as they're a big company rather than an individual/indpendant business, but we were assigned one particlular broker rather than just a generic faceless service, and they helped us find a great mortage deal despite difficult circumstances (needed 95% and had recently moved back from abroad, so didn't satisfy three-year residence requirements of many lenders).

They also contacted us when our mortgage was up for renwewal and helped find a good re-mortgage deal.

They don't charge you, instead claiming a fee from whoever you eventually borrow from.

We have used London&Country (L&C) for at least 15 years. They are whole of the market, free and come highly recommended by MoneySavingExpert.

They get their fee from the mortgage company you take your mortgage with, like all of them, they just don't charge on top of that I believe.
