Day one of kitchen. Please tell me it gets better!

Victorian terrace with awful, cheap kitchen I’ve been dying to get rid of.

I’m already stressed after one day and this is going to take a month! (Both bathrooms are also being ripped out and redone, downstairs one at same time as kitchen)

I keep forgetting there’s no kitchen and going to fill the kettle up, or put my cup down!

Just wanted a moan. I know it’s worth it, but the living with it is not so great.

It's worth it, did ours ourselves for some mad reason but we've done a bathroom since so it can't have been that bad!

Blimey @PineappleSun mad respect! If I did mine myself I’d be without a kitchen for about 15 years Grin

Thanks @Ostryga I do know the reason, its because I'm northern and tight but at least we weren't waiting on builders and the like to show up, plus the extra motivation meant it only took two weeks. The downside is that you know about every single imperfection and problem until the end of your days /kitchen.

Gorgeous kitchen! Where's it from?

Blossomtoes · 22/06/2021 12:41

Now I’m scared! We were planning to move into a Travelodge while ours is done, we thought it would take a week ...

Icequeen01 · 22/06/2021 19:31

@longtompot Thank you! It's from a local kitchen company to me (Kent). I didn't want to go into their shop at first as I thought they would be way too expensive for us but they asked what our budget was and worked within that. We had all new appliances, plastering and a little bit of electrical work and they came in on budget. They were a fabulous company.

Awesome thanks for all the pictures, you have beautiful kitchens. I have kitchen envy!

Oh my I feel your pain. Day 13 here. I know I know know it will be worth it but the dust gets everywhere, I’m tired of washing up in the garden and having half the kitchen in the living room. My toddler is obsessed with the builders and we have to have him out of the house or else he will do himself and injury.

We are getting there. New ceilings, new plaster, new floors, and new kitchen in our kitchen diner which keeps throwing up surprises.

Pics of day one posted….it better be worth it.

We've been doing ours about 3mths now and I'm sick to the back teeth of it.
We're doing it ourselves and both work full time and do childcare alone too so we have barely any time to work on it.

We've had new plaster on all walls, ripped out the condemned fire, put the range cooker in the fireplace, ripped up the floor and replaced it with much nicer tiles, restored a huge old unit and fitted most of the units.

We've come across rotten floor joists which we've had to replace, dead mice, leaks, a badly leaking door which we just cannot solve and discovered the plumbing was all leaking and instead of fixing it, they just dug a massive hole in the floor and filled it with sand Hmm.

We still need to fully fit the units, finish the painting, tile the walls, sand and paint the skirting/door frames/window surrounds and sort out lighting. I just can't wait until it's finished. At least my sink is finally in though, thank god.
