I am moving from a house with a lot of storage and thinking of offering on this but it has none!!

Can you think of where we could add build in storage, I don't want shoe racks etc, I want build in with a door for shoes and coats mainly.

Here is the floor plan. Thank you

Build a porch? Is there any space under the stairs for a cupboard? Looks like that bit might be currently in the downstairs loo?

If be inclined to be more radical. Take down the wall between the kitchen and dining room, block up the current kitchen door and use the blocked up area outside the downstairs bathroom for coat cupboards. And/or add a porch to the front or back door.

Custom built floor to ceiling storage behind the front door would work. Drawers at the bottom for shoes, main large middle double cupboard for coats and bags, higher shelf for seasonal items which can be swapped over. Paint it all the same colour as the walls and it'll blend in nicely.

It's not a storage solution for coats etc, but if you have a turn in your stairs, you may have enough room to fit a built in bookcase there.

You could move the door to the wc forwards, in line with the kitchen door, then create coat/shoe storage in there? Then built-in cupboards behind the front door, along that wall.

This is what I was thinking of doing but can't quite think how it would work, would I have to have a storage room then another door into the toilet?

Could you take out the existing part of wall (purple), add a new wall with sliding pocket door into the toilet, then add a new wall across at the bottom of the stairs?

I would just use one side of the hallway behind the front door. Plenty of houses have much narrower hallways. Hooks/shelves are more space efficient than cupboards but you could have sliding doors if you are really keen to hide it away.

I agree with the first part of this ie use the space to the left of the loo (as you sit on it). You could just do hooks with a door on to keep it tidy-looking. Don't think you need to change the other wall.

I'd also (and have myself) add waist height cupboards at the non-window end of the lounge. As well as nice deep storage, it would create a handy shelf for photo frames/flowers and you won't miss the length in such a long room.
