Smaller size child's single bed??

goteam · 20/06/2021 19:15

We are moving DD into a small box room and there isn't a lot of space. All beds seem to be 200cm long. Does anyone gave anything between a toddler bed and regular single bed, so around 175 cm in length? I thought ikea did them but I can only see regular ones on the website.

Help! Need bedroom ideas and bed suggestions for a small space!

You get small single beds

Try Wayfair. We got a bed for a tricky space from there a couple of years ago. All of their beds have the dimensions clearly stated in the descriptions.

goteam · 20/06/2021 19:18

Thanks @dementedpixie any idea where from?

A simple wooded bed frame isn't hard to make yourself/get a handy man to do it but then you still need to find the mattress. If you can find a mattress then I would just get someone to make the bed.

ArnoldBee · 20/06/2021 19:21

I got what's called a junior single bed from united carpets in their showroom. I think it's one of those things you have to think imaginatively about.

dementedpixie · 20/06/2021 19:24

Wayfair definitely has some

Crowsaregreat · 20/06/2021 19:25

IKEA do extendable ones starting 137cm length.

MonkeyPuddle · 20/06/2021 19:26

Argos do ‘shorty’ beds and mattresses

Is this the ikea one?

dementedpixie · 20/06/2021 19:31

A lot of the shortie beds are cabin beds or high sleeper beds

goteam · 20/06/2021 19:33

Thanks all. The toddler bed we are moving DC out of is 145cm so we need something interim as we are planning on moving in the next few years and the width of the room is 175cm from skirting to skirting.

I have thought about getting something built but would need to find a mattress that fits

Will check out suggestions, thanks.

How old is she?

IKEA has several options for junior and extendable beds.
www.ikea.com/gb/en/cat/junior-extendable-beds-45847/

If you get a junior bed, they do a foam mattress to go with it www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/underlig-foam-mattress-for-junior-bed-white-70348554/

If you get an extendable bed, IKEA does a sprung mattress to go with it, the middle length is 165cm which might be about right?

If you don't like the IKEA mattresses I recommend this mattress supplier, they do any size and we have used them and very happy with them.

Forgot link for the extendable mattress
It would be 80x165

ikea toddler beds are 160cm long.
a carpenter could make you a made to measure bedframe relatively cheaply and you can get matresses in all sizes. caravan or boating places do made to measure as well.

NameChange30 · 20/06/2021 20:28

I quite like this one from Wayfair, 80cm wide and several length options including 160cm and 180cm
www.wayfair.co.uk/children-nursery/pdp/harriet-bee-commer-bed-frame-u002948873.html
On wayfair if you want 80x160 filter by size and select "European toddler".

Also, in a small space, I would use clever storage, such as an underbed drawer (providing there's space to pull it out!) and a bedside shelf, I recently bought one from urbansize for our box room.

As a PP mentioned above, these are often called ‘shorty beds’ and a lot of the ones I’ve seen are more like 180cm but this (aptly named) site has various frame sizes inc 170cm and 175cm (depending on the model): shortybeds.co.uk/collections/childrens-beds

I think they sell the corresponding mattresses too.

goteam · 20/06/2021 21:25

Thanks all. Just looking at some of these websites. I like the Shorty Beds website, there are a few good ones and the Wayfair one. Interesting that the IKEA one is a toddler bed as its quite a bit bigger than our John Lewis toddler bed.

Warren Evans do a small single and are lovely quality.

NameChange30 · 21/06/2021 08:27

A "small single" is the same length as a standard single, just narrower.

Hallyup6 · 21/06/2021 10:00

We got our daughter's bed from a company called Get Laid beds. They do all sorts of sizes and colours, custom made and not expensive. Good quality too.

There's also a lot of companies that do shorty beds, as other have said.

stormelf · 21/06/2021 10:18

We've got an ikea extendable toddler bed for DD. Think it's called a minnen. It's 80cm wide so feels like a normal single bed and can be three different lengths. We will be buying one for Ds as well once he's ready to move from the cot

AfternoonToffee · 21/06/2021 10:36

Rainbow Wood do a divan that might work.

My ds has a Thuka midsleeper that converted from a shorty bed to a standard, but it may now have been discontinued.

Knittingnanny · 21/06/2021 10:49

I’ve got the Argos short bed in my box room for grandchildren. It’s fine for that purpose but the mattress that came with it is very flimsy. I’ve slept there a couple of times when dh is snoring badly and I fit in it fine ( 5’2” and 9 st) but would want to get a better mattress if I was sleeping there regularly. Not sure how easy it is to get that size mattress though.
It has useful sliding door storage underneath. I bought some small fitted sheet on Amazon and just use a standard single duvet.
