Painting behind radiators

We had a new heating system (combi boiler) installed back in January. We had just moved in and didn't have time to paint behind the new radiators before they were installed. We're now getting round to redecorating and want to remove all the radiators. We've not drained down the heating system before and we're wondering if this is the best way to go or not? We can do without heating at the moment, but will still need hot water. Is this something we should be able to do ourselves? Thanks!

If you are painting then you can get a long handled small roller for painting behind your radiators without removing them

Yep just use a long handled small roller for the bits you can see. I’d never remove radiators to paint behind them!

you do not need to drain the system if you take a radiator off. You first close the valves at each end, which isolates it from the pipework. When you have finished, and reconnect it, you use the filling loop (if pressurised) to refill and reset pressure. Open only one of the radiator valves until after you have bled it to prevent air pumping round the pipes.
