Roman blinds for a wide window?

Any idea where I can get Roman blinds made to measure that won’t cost the earth? We have an unusually wide window (about 2.4 m). I tried few places online wnd they simply can’t make one with those dimensions! 🤔 so next thing to try: is two roman blinds side by side? Two ready made blind that are 1.2m wide maybe? Or will that look stupid? Any thoughts/pointers much appreciated! Thanks

Is it that the fabric pattern you want only comes in smaller sizes?
Blinds2go can make blinds to this width but it may depend on the fabric.

Two smaller blinds might work so long as it wasn't a patterned material being used as you probably wouldn't get a very good match.

Thanks will try blind2go! And good point re patterned materials!

The issue with such a wide expanse is the weight of the fabric when you pull the blind up. I'd definitely consider two shorter widths.

As for pattern matching I've had good results from Blindsuk who pattern matched when they made blinds for a bay window (so three separate blinds).

Personally I would not go for two Roman blinds as think it would look odd to have the blinds split in two like this. Can you not go for long curtains instead?

Waitforwhat · 19/06/2021 08:31

Well, this is for an office space abd planning to have quite a big desk in front of that window. I won’t be able to draw the curtains easily and really don’t like the look of short curtains! Hence the blinds.

I have two side by side, they were here when we moved in. There is a small gap in-between, though isn't quite as bad as seems in the photo.

If you're going to have a desk right at the window would wooden venetians not be better? Then at times when it's sunny you can tilt them so you don't get the sun in your eyes / lots of glare while working but still have them open?

If you're in Hampshire then I can recommend a great local place (they have a couple branches) that do brilliant made to measure ones - they've fitted out a couple houses for us in recent years.

Try www.orderblinds.co.uk
We just bought a roller blind from them for an even wider window (via eBay) and it's fantastic quality.

I second blinds2go I have all of mine from them and they are excellent.

Roman blinds for a wide window?

I had this dilemma. My son's window is 3m wide. I had a local curtain maker fit a bespoke roman blind that's 3.15m wide. It's heavy, so it's on a battery remote control track.

I couldn't find anything off the shelf for the width and 2 separate blinds didn't look very neat.

Waitforwhat · 19/06/2021 21:21

Thanks all for you thoughts. @CharlieAteThePies, any chance you can post a pic? Rough costs will be useful too! Smile

In the trade OP. We make roman blinds that size all the time, and you can use what's called a room high fabric (3 metres) so you won't get lots of joins. We railroad them and use on their side rather than top to bottom.

There are lots of suitable tracks either manually or electrically operated that would work.

I think you'll struggle getting one off the shelf at that size.

CharlieAteThePies · 19/06/2021 22:11

@Waitforwhat I needed 6m of fabric, then the make up cost was £570 (inc VAT and interlined and blackout lined). They're beautiful blinds (there are 2 joins, but they aren't noticeable).

The roman blind track was £396 (inc VAT). There's a rechargeable battery with a remote. Quick and easy to close and open. I've also added another device to connect the track to Alexa 👏

The fitting cost was £25 cash to the fitter.

I'll take a photo tomorrow and try to PM it to you. I don't want to post publicly, as it's easily identifiable 😊

Thank you @randomkey123! That’s v helpful. Any idea of costs for a manual one? Appreciate it will probably depend on fabric chosen but just need a rough figure to see if it’s within reach!

Hillary’s Blinds offered to do a Roman blind in front of our Bifolds (7m wide) so they can definitely do it. My guess is it probably depends on patterns / fabrics.

@CharlieAteThePies thanks so much for the detailed reply! Much appreciated!
