Mould- where to start?

Upstairs had a leak which has left our cupboards growing mould- its literally hanging/growing off the shelves! We left it untouched, as advised by the insurance company. Long story short, we have now been told to get builders in to quote.

Should I start cleaning the mould with 50:50 water/vinegar or would all the wood/plaster likely get thrown out anyways? We kept the cupboard doors shut, but now wonder if I should leave them open?

Eugh hideous. Why did they tell you to leave it!

I would bleach it for sure. Take before pictures just in case you are supposed to leave it.

I think that's going to need more than water and vinegar to be honest.

@LemonSwan- we were told by the freeholder to leave it as is, till their assessor could come out and view it. Its been completely mismanaged and more extensive than the photos show.

I'd use a dilute bleach solution to kill the spores

Mould isn't healthy for you.
If it was bit I'd bleach it down but that is a lot.
I would be insisting that the insurance of upstairs sorted out a professional to remove it for you.

This stuff works wonders. Sprayed it on my bathroom blind that looked like your cupboard and now it is white and the mould has not returned

I think leave it alone until you get builders in. That’s not a scrub it off type job, I think the surfaces (plaster I’m guessing) are too far gone and will need ripping out anyway.

Yep, second the Cillit Bang Black Mould Remover

Ozanj · 16/06/2021 22:51

You need to rip it all out. This is just too much

HG Mould Spray.

Very strange that they said to leave it closed. Always better to air.

Freeholders building insurance will cover the repair/reinstatement of your damage. The people upstairs will only be liable for the actual pipe repair. It's not their insurance that makes the claim.

Insurance excess will either come from service charge (usual if it's no fault) or the upstairs leaseholder will be asked to cover it.
