Redoing kitchen, how much?

We are purchasing a house hopefully in summer. The kitchen is of an average size (3m by 3m)
We want to;

  • knock through one wall into dining room.
  • block up doorway from dining to living room.
  • get kitchen cabinets sprayed (although they are plastic so unsure if we can)
  • get a new double oven.
  • get new work tops.
  • redo the floor with laminate.

We have set aside £10,000 to do this.
Does this sound enough? Does anyone have experience with similar? Thanks 🙂

It'll depend on whether or not you need to put support into the wall. Our steels cost 5K before you even started knocking walls down, reflooring, replastering and electrics.

Doubt it. Knocking wall down could cost minimum £2500 if it's structural, if using granite worktops then another £3000, respray - no idea, maybe £1000. flooring £1000 for now double sized room, oven £350 plus fitting? Do you need to buy a wall unit for it? Electrician? Block up door maybe £200. But these are pre pandemic prices I would guesstimate. And on top you need to replaster, redecorate, add skirting to where you blocked up wall. I wouldn't be surprised at £15,000 or more, and you are dealing with several different trades so scheduling is complicated and of course you may pick more expensive flooring or worktops (or less, though I've figured mid to lower end).
Not that I'd want to put you off, but you need to do alot of research of each element to get an accurate cost, then you'll know what you can achieve.

I think it’s doable. Our steel goes in this week, it’s 7m long and extra wide and it was £1600 so yours would be much smaller. Blocking up a doorway is not costly. £4K should cover both of those.

3m x 3m is quite small so painting units say £1k (although you could do this yourselves), floor - £1500, oven circa £800 (but much cheaper possibly) worktops £2k should cover it.

Friend is doing this in South London right now. They are having all new kitchen units though and that is coming in at over 20k.
Renewing electrics etc cost a lot more than people ever think

All depends on the size of the knock through - if just a doorway you could get away with a lintel, if larger then steels come into play which is expensive with the cost of structural engineer etc. I reckon it's doable with budget worktops/flooring.
