Tile small entrance or wood flooring planks throughout?

Trying to decide if it would be better to tile our small entrance, or continue the wood flooring planks that will be going down in the rooms beyond all the way through the entrance too? Pros/cons, thoughts/suggestions, all welcome. Thanks!

Depends on the wood flooring. Dark or varnished wood is fine, but if you’ve got oiled or pale the. It gets scuffy really quickly. We have opted for tiles now, just for the entryway part.

Really helpful to know as we are looking at fairly light oiled wood.

We've put an inbuilt mat just inside our door, which really works.

Does it cover quite a large area?

Yes, but you can have whatever size.

Agree with Itwa. You can buy the coir matting by the metre from carpet places and it traps a lot of dirt but also grit which would otherwise scratch your floors.

If you don't fancy that then I'd say definitely tiles especially in a small area with concentrated footfall.

As its at the bottom of the stairs I would not have tiles unless I intended a big rug over them.

Would that be due to tiles feeling cold under foot?

@Sorbustree123 in case of falling down the stairs!

Entering the house on wood will be scratched & worn very quickly.
Amtico, Karndean or similar would be hard wearing & easy to clean.
