Best property tv shows?

Hi, just wondering what property programmes people recommend? Something realistic and about average people/houses/budgets... Grand Designs is great but unrealistic for us. Hoping to pick up some tips on buying and doing up a house.... while refreshing Rightmove constantly waiting for the dream home to pop up magically in budget! Thanks.

Homes under the hammer?

Abracadabra12345 · 15/06/2021 22:06

Love it or list it?

YellowFish12 · 15/06/2021 22:37

Love it or list it.

Your home made perfect.

Ugly house to lovely house (although George Clark is SO ANNOYING and they don’t really show you enough aboit the costs)

£100k home (or it was called something summits) this is good, was about people self building and the presenter/architect would often give good ideas about how to achieve something interesting to a budget.

Ugly house to lovely house, although I don’t agree with the pretentious architects turning the exterior of the house into something hideous everytime. Inside is always fine out nicely by the owners.
Homes under the hammer is good if you want to know how to add value.

A few years old now but Fixer upper, never seen them do a bad job and Joanna Gaines as a real eye for design, I’ve often thought of selling my garden shed in London and relocating to a 2000 square foot ranch with 5 acres of land in Waco Texas 😁

goldenshoes · 16/06/2021 13:27

I've started watching Room To Improve on Channel 5 having watched every Grand Designs/George Clarke/Charlie whatsisface programme I could find over lockdown. Don't let the fact that it's on Channel 5 put you off, it's worth a watch for (usually) more attainable builds!

Also like Your Home Made Perfect.

Renovate Don't Relocate with Sarah Beeny.
I like the way she shows which areas are used on a giant floor plan before making any changes.

Whereverilaymycat · 16/06/2021 14:36

I second @Bamaluz Sarah Beeny recommendation. The budgets tend to be more modest and have included properties like flats. Generally a bit more realistic.

Spanglybangles · 16/06/2021 15:00

Yes!! to Fixer Upper…I love that show. I have family who immigrated to Texas, every time I watch Chip and Joanna I dream about moving there. Also love Hometown and Nate and Jeremiah. These are all US shows mind, but do also enjoy Love it or List it and Building the Dream.

What channel is that on?

oh thanks i'll check that out! I've watched pretty much everything on 4 and BBC!

Buying and Selling with The Scott Brothers on Very! Set in the US and Canada but the renovations and styling are amazing! Not stupid money, just doing up a tired house to sell within budget so the owners can afford to trade up. Really good inspiration.

FastFood · 16/06/2021 19:32

Oh I have a question for you all:
In France there's a TV show, its about people who don't manage to sell their house / flat.
An EA comes, discuss the price and the market, sends an interior designer, and within a few days, they totally change the place on a very tight budget (like £3000) and put it back on the market.
I love that show (I love seeing terrible interiors being transformed with a lick of paint) and was wondering if there's an equivalent here in the UK.

(It's on a budget so its generally quite sketchy but there are good tips for DIY)

Subbaxeo · 16/06/2021 19:57

@FastFood, There used to be one called House Doctor with Anne Maurice-she was great! A little dated if you watch now but very good tips!

surreygirl1987 · 16/06/2021 19:59

Oh wow thanks for all these suggestions! I especially love the sound of renovate don't relocate! Ooh lots of fun things to watch!

Renovate Don't Relocate is on HGTV

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 17/06/2021 12:04

I love Renovate Don't Relocate! It did actually inspire us to do exactly that with out own house, and it's worked out brilliantly.

I also really like Your Home Made Perfect (though I miss Robert and his bench seating), Ugly House to Lovely House and Old House New Home.

And if I'm in a transatlantic mood, Your Dream Home (also known as Property Brothers), which features the Scott twins, is good fun.

thinnerlikeachickendinner · 17/06/2021 12:13

I really loved house doctor, so sensible and practical- whatever happened to that?

Yy I love these shows as well, I’m addicted to HGTV Also house doctor, she was very practical & no nonsense approach.

I’m sure Sarah Beeny did something where she advised people on selling their houses, kind of linked with when she set up her online estate agency. Can’t remember what it was called unfortunately but I distinctly remember her trying gently to point out to someone that an entire purple living room was rather off putting to buyers!

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 18/06/2021 08:11

Selling houses with Sarah Beeny then later series with Amanda Lamb. This is my guilty pleasure - a bit dated now but seeing how people view their own properties they have up for sale is so interesting.

ItsSnowJokes · 18/06/2021 08:15

I like Renovate don't Relocate as well. Mt fave though is the property brother's but its American so different market. I love how indignant some home owners get when they come in and slate their house (rightly so in a lot of cases!)

puffylovett · 18/06/2021 08:45

All of the above. But I also love the American programs - obviously Fixer Upper (I’m always telling my partner to ‘be more chip’ when he whinges about doing diy). Hidden potential, good homes, ty breaker, flip or flop and then there is the Make Life Beautiful couple on Netflix (can’t remember their names!)
Also there’s the new channel discovery plus which I need to sign up for as apparently that has loads including new fixer uppers!

YellowFish12 · 18/06/2021 09:21

I watched the first two renovate don't relocate last night - not totally convinced by them. Can't believe the couple with the huge sofa spent so much money and didn't even get a new kitchen out of it tbh and their taste in furniture was rats.
