Hate handless kitchen, will handles look weird?

As above. Have Matt Luca kitchen from DIY kitchens. Get so dirty looking.... www.diy-kitchens.com/kitchens/luca-dove-grey/details/ I have a dark grey. Any thoughts of putting on handles?

I don't think handles are going to solve the problem. If you're using the finger pulls (routes edges) to pull the doors open now, you'd expect the majority of finger marks to be in there. But in reality, people will close the doors by touching the face of them and every touch shows on a matt surface. I don't think adding handles will stop people from pushing them closed and adding finger marks, unfortunately.

you could go b&q buy one cheap door handle put it against your units and see if you like the look of it

It does. People will use handles..... sure not perfect, but better than constant marks

@BettyBurntBuns I'm in a very similar boat with a very similar kitchen.

I'm going to get some handles and have a go.

Failing that I'm going to use naked doors and have some lovely timeless oak veneer slab doors made.

Ozanj · 17/06/2021 21:17

Why are they getting dirty? You need to get into the mindset of the person using the kitchen if not you. Maybe including some limited open shelving might help.?

LoudestCat14 · 17/06/2021 21:18

If you hate it that much, is replacing the doors only for a different style an option? You wouldn't need new carcasses.

They get dirty because they get used. The finger marks are terrible to remove as well.

Hate the whole kitchen. Worst mistake! But as soon as I get tiles and stuff I’m sure it will be better

I have doors like these in white, I've not found they get too dirty but I do tend to do a quick wipe down twice a day with a micro fibre cloth. Is it a new kitchen? I'm sure it's lovely.

goldpendant · 17/06/2021 21:55

I'm finding it really hard to find replacement doors only, as handleless kitchen doors are slightly smaller than standard doors because of the finger rail 😩

fruitbrewhaha · 17/06/2021 22:02

Maybe you all need to wash your hands more? I'm not trying to be a dick, but just stop touching everything with dirty hands.

Nope. Hands aren’t dirty. The issue is also they are really hard to clean.

And you are being a dick.

Could you have them re-sprayed with something that isn't matt? Might be the cheapest option. Or have a company spray a protective layer over them?

Don’t really want to spend any more money. Knobs/handles would be ok. Still need to get it sorted out in terms of tiles etc, hoping it will be better..... had a bad fitter as well

@BettyBurntBuns can you post a pic of the kitchen? 100% it'll come together when your tiles are in etc.

But I do feel your pain, for us it's where we close ours, even with clean hands the dark grey matt seems to pick up even natural skin oils! Which are then very stubborn!

On the cabinets handles will look fine. Lower units might be trickier.

Thank you. Yes I’m hoping. Will post when I get the fitting done :)

We have these and the handles are the ridge at top and bottom, so your fingers tuck inside the ridge when you open them and don’t generally mark the front any more than a door with handles stuck on the surface. You do push them closed but I would also push a handled door closed as well.

You have the same kitchen?

Hi sorry bit late to the party, but I'm deciding between 2 different types of handless doors at the moment and was told by the kitchen designer that you can always add push close catches to the doors so you press them and they open and then press and close, this is the one that I'm leaning towards more that the catch can be added onto:

n0shy · 08/01/2022 15:41

But I do t see why you can't add a handle afterwards as they are just flat doors

whataboutbob · 08/01/2022 16:37

Why do you hate the kitchen OP? mumsnetters generally rave about DIY kitchens.

HouseyHouse21 · 08/01/2022 18:52

Can you post pictures of the marks, OP? We had this kitchen put in but in matt white and the only place that needs regular cleaning is inside the J groove, not on the doors themselves.
Are the marks just from regular use, or children playing with them? Finding it hard to envisage.

HouseyHouse21 · 08/01/2022 18:53

Sorry, just saw this is an old thread! Hope you've sorted it by now!!

BarkminsterBlue · 08/01/2022 21:31

I’m sorry, I know this is an old thread but I cannot get over the PP who wipes her kitchen cupboard doors twice a day Confused
