Oh my good Lord I can't take the stress of it all... (possibly v. boring house selling thread...)

OK, not possibly. Definitely.

Flipping heck though - we accepted our buyers' offer 2 weeks ago and went and offered on our dream house which was accepted.

Mortgages all in place but the buyers haven't booked a survey yet - wanted to bring her parents to have a look first...

They've just been. This afternoon I turned into him from Sleeping with the Enemy (I even arranged the magnetic letters on the fridge ) and they were half an hour late so the kids have only just gone to bed.

I stayed in the front room but could hear them opening every cupboard door in the kitchen and bathroom, they've moved stuff around, he asked to see the fuse box (looked like a builder/electrician type person) and it was utterly terrifying.

Am dreading the call tomorrow to say they're withdrawing their offer...

No, they won't. They're just being cautious, bet you. Hang in there

Dottydot · 20/11/2007 20:49

The father was very scary - grimaced a lot. The only thing I'm clinging to was that I saw the daughter had written down measurements for the kitchen and appliances.

Need to find the self control not to ring our estate agents at 9am tomorrow to start hassling them to book the sodding survey...

the whole house buying thing sucks doesn't it? You don't want to hear this but I'll say it anyway - if they should pull out now (which I'm sure they won't) then it's much much better than if they pull out in a months time when you've lashed out lots of cash and got really really excited

Dottydot · 20/11/2007 22:07

But I'm really, really, really excited now... Have mentally moved into dream home and had the building work done.

Know what you mean. Need to be horribly measured and wait until tomorrow afternoon before chasing.

Our buyers asked to come back round after having got the results of their survey, and I was utterly convinced they would pull out. It was all fine though.

Idiot surveyor spent 2 hours in my tiny 2 bed terrace, rebuffing all "interference" - like me telling him where the patio door lock was, so in the survey it said the doors wouldn't open and would need to be replaced .

They went away happy...

Dottydot · 20/11/2007 22:13

Noooooooo - in my head, the survey gets done and that's it, sorted, done. Can't cope with another visit from Scary Dad...

Parents are always scary as they never paid anything like what we now pay for houses. They generally tut and shake their heads, but it is good that they checked everything out now like the fuse box etc. It means they are less likely to be scared by the survey.

I would open cupboards in a kitchen and any cupboard that would be staying with the house. We had fitted wardrobes at our last house and I did the whole Sleeping With The Enemy thing, put shirts in colour order as I knew that I would have to open all the wardrobes as they come with the house.

Get onto your estate agent and get things moving. The quicker that is done, the quicker you can be out and into your dream house.

Dottydot - what happened?

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 25/11/2007 20:42

I went round to see the house we had an offer accepted on the same day. Just to make sure we did the right thing.

NIGHTMARE.... It gets worse.

Finally our buyers booked their survey, which was this morning.

Over the weekend (we hadn't even noticed until today) a group of travellors decided to break into the land directly opposite our house that used to have a school on it - the school's just been knocked down and I think there will be plans at some point to build a small number of houses. (A lot of the land is protected so the build will eventually be very small - there have been plans for 15 houses for instance). This space is right opposite our house, with the entrance opposite our front door.

So there are about 20 caravans, loud music, everyhing all of a sudden looking crap (with apologies to all travellors out there) and of course it was one of the first things the surveyor commented on.

Aaaarrgghhhh... I don't know if it'll significantly affect how he values the house, but the timing's unbelievably crap. I don't give a toss in terms of us if there are caravans there, but I wish the sodding survey had been done beforehand.

Right. Rant over. Sorry if this has come across as mean spirited, but yes I'm being very selfish about this and hoping it doesn't affect it too badly...

Meanwhile we're having our survey done next week.

Fingers crossed please...
