How much to do a kitchen and a bathroom?

I received some great advice on my other thread about a new kitchen, but now need some help with costing please 💰

London zone 3 FYI.

Mid-range kitchen from say Wren, 12 units, with stone top and solid wood units. Range cooker, dishwasher, fridge. How much for all this plus installation?

Mid-range bathroom. Bath and shower, sink, toilet - fairly standard set from say Victoria Plum. How much for suite and installation?

We last had work like this done over five years ago, so can't really remember, plus prices have gone up I'm sure.

Thank you!

For both mine was thirty grand.

bravotango · 14/06/2021 19:46

Agree with PP - 8k for the bathroom, 16-22k for the kitchen, plus extras

emmathedilemma · 14/06/2021 20:01

I was going to say £20k but then reread solid wood units and stone top and I’m guessing trades costs in London may be more so probably £25-30k?

lettie9 · 14/06/2021 20:44

@Bluntness100 may I ask where you got yours from? I'm so bamboozle by choice!

Can you ask websites like Victoria Plum for discounts?

Go on Homes Under The Hammer and you’ll do both for 3 grand 😀

Livingintheclouds · 14/06/2021 21:04

I think you can only asks for discounts if you were doing several bathrooms. Victoria plum is not high end and probably not as flexible with their margins.

lettie9 · 14/06/2021 21:11

Or time travel back to the 90s, and go on changing rooms? I might end up with lime green units and purple carpet though.

Our plumber recommended Plumbworld (I think it gets mixed reviews on here but looks ok to me Grin. You could also save money by getting an IKEA or DIY kitchen rather than Wren

lettie9 · 14/06/2021 21:43

The problem with IKEA is that they don't do solid worktop. DIY kitchen I'm not sure about. I'd prefer to see it in a showroom I think, seeing we'll be in this house for years, decades - hopefully!

You’re looking at £15-20k for a Wren kitchen that size, their top range (we did ours, outskirts of London last year with Wren). That’s with one of their deals that they frequently run (30% off, 50% off units etc), otherwise more like £30k but absolutely would not do it without a deal, they’re pretty frequent in the year. Plus installation another £3-5k ish

lettie9 · 14/06/2021 22:01

@ChloeR81 really? Website is saying 7500 for infinity plus with mid range appliances. Maybe I've done it wrong!

OP posts:
lettie9 · 14/06/2021 22:05

Now it's 8500 maybe I selected something extra this time. But anyway, that's before discounts.

I know that doesn't include fridge and dishwasher, but even so

Pretty sure Ikea do a proper quartz worktop - you may need to go into store though. Their kitchens are brilliant for the price (but make sure you get a good installer). Obviously no good if you want a solid wood unit though. Their Lerhyttan kitchen doors are wood as well, if shaker is your bag.

Also look at your local plumber's merchant if you have one, you might be able to negotiate on price in person.

lettie9 · 14/06/2021 23:49

They do do stone yep Smilebut not solid wood

Andthenanothercupoftea · 15/06/2021 07:55

That's a shame as Ikea used to do a solid worktop! I'd recommend Howdens as we have a kitchen with a lovely solid wooden worktop from there and it worked out only marginally more expensive than Ikea - the fitting is cheaper as the cabinets come fully constructed and more people seem to like fitting them.

For the bathroom go to your local plumbers merchant and get some catalogues - they'll be able to recommend local fitters as well. It might take a little longer and you'll want to double check you've ordered everything, but you'll likely save ££.

HasaDigaEebowai · 15/06/2021 08:07

The ikea wooden worktops might not be solid wood but they are real wood veneers rather than laminate. We had expensive american black walnut solid worktops in our kitchen and ikea veneered walnut worktops in our utility and you would honestly not notice the difference.

I'm doing a very high end renovation at the moment and Im using them again in our boot room.

Didicat · 15/06/2021 08:10

@lettie9 you can view DIY kitchens you just have to go to pontefract to do so, my mum did this recently as she wouldn’t buy unseen.

lettie9 · 15/06/2021 08:18

Sorry everybody - to clarify, I meant IKEA do not do solid wood cabinets. They do indeed do solid oak tops and stone tops. But I want solid wood cabinets too, and would prefer to get everything from one supplier to minimise compatibility issues!

Yes if you go up on the train they will arrange a car to get you from the station.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 15/06/2021 08:20

I have IKEA units and a solid wood worktop - I bought the worktop online and got a carpenter to fit it. I’m sure you could do the same with stone. And then there’s the places that do doors to fit IKEA units in any finish you like, so you could have solid wood doors.

HasaDigaEebowai · 15/06/2021 08:35

Why do you want solid wood cabinets OP? many higher end handmade kitchens do not use solid wood boxes since theyre not as stable.

HasaDigaEebowai · 15/06/2021 08:38

Devol for example don't have solid wood cabinets. Theirs are birch ply with solid wood doors.

DumpyDonkey · 15/06/2021 08:42

Bathroom cost 12k. Tbf I went for mid - top of the range. Tiling or not makes a huge difference in price.

Do not use Victoria Plum. Terrible company.
